Actions Taken Due to Member Agreement Violations

On February 14, over 800 accounts which repeatedly violated the PlayOnline
Member Agreement were permanently banned from PlayOnline.

The users of these accounts would form groups to monopolize the hunting
spots of notorious monsters (NM). They also repeatedly performed harassment and MPK actions against other players.

Grief tactics, including harassment, are listed in the PlayOnline Member
Agreement as violations and are not allowed for any reason. Also,
interfering other players' game play in order to monopolize monsters which spawn in hunting spots is not allowed.

Based on the above, we have taken strict actions against players who have
violated the PlayOnline Member Agreement.

If you become a victim of harrasment, please make a GM Call and report the issue directly to a Game Master.

Your understanding and cooperation will help us provide the best experience possible to our players.

Gonna go check if i was banned for going to jail that one time...

That is really not that many if you think about it... 33 servers (including Atomos) So thats only 24.242424242 people banned per server(.24 is taru)... there is more gil sellers then that in Oztroja alone at any given time.

But 20 more of these bans and \:D/
I guess its a step in the right direction.

Atomos is a test server... And unless SE wants to buy their own gil. I doubt they banned anything in there lol...

800 accounts, an account can have up to 16 players on it so for all you know you could have over 8000 gilsellers banned now, i realize thats prolly not the case but just saying its not just 800 charictors

Why would you have more then 1 character on a gil selling account? Well perhaps mules, but why take the time to level multiple gil farming characters if you can only use 1 at a time, just buy another content ID. Meh I just counted Atomos because you never know hahah

You can't farm gil with 2 character on the same account at the same time. Probably 1 gilseller and maybe one mule per account

Regardless its progress and it at least shows that SE acknowledges all the whining instead of turning a deaf ear. Sometimes I don't think people give them enough credit.

yea im with yarr, they need to worry more about botting programs, getting rid of bots would actually cut down on gil-sellers alot becuase it would reduce their NM claiming abilitys.

Only problem with the idea of "getting rid of bots" is that it's extraordinarily difficult to detect botting programs. No good botting/packet-sniffing program will input anything into the game that the player couldn't generate from their own keyboard/controller, which makes proving that someone is using a botting program essentially impossible, unless a GM happens to catch them away from their keyboard/controller.

And it's COMPLETELY impossible to detect packet-sniffing. Packet-sniffing is an entirely passive function, since you're simply reading the contents of the packets that are coming to your computer anyways. Packet-sniffing doesn't edit the contents of the packets in any way, so even if SE did try some sort of funky packet encoding to add CRC Checksums or whatnot to the specific bits of information they send, all it would do is add extra network overhead and slow everyone's connection down.

Some people have suggested that SE should incorporate some form of process or program scanner into their software, that would check to make sure that no windowers or packet-sniffers or whatnot are running on your comp when you've got POL/FFXI open, and while it would be insanely difficult to do, it is a possibility... Except that such a scanner would violate about every personal privacy law that currently exists. No company has the right to dictate to you what software you run in conjunction with theirs. Installing a piece of SE software does not entitle them to rights of ownership over your computer.

Not to mention that, just like the copy-protection software that games use to attempt to foil software piracy, it wouldn't take long for programmers to learn what SE's scanner looks for, and then they could easily program ways around it. They could supply the scanner with a constant stream of false information, tricking it into believing that everything is alright... It might even be something so simple as changing the names of the bots/packet-sniffers they use.

Please don't get me wrong, I'd love to see SE deal with the botters and packet-sniffers and the like in some way, but from the standpoint of a networking professional... There just aren't many avenues open to SE. They'd do better to focus on hiring more GMs to closely monitor the people camping NMs, and even that would likely prove mostly futile.
