well, from my perspective, only the real true hardcore FF gamers are staying, I think the server is dying a bit. Ifrit by far is one of the smarter server with older, more mature, and smarter players. However, so many ppl that used to log in multiple hours now only come on for sky/God runs dynamis, or some other LS event. Many of the once super rich/high lvl crafters quit which hurt supply in craft markets, lvling still takes a while, yet a little longer as sometimes one can venture in high xp lvling areas and see them abandoned on weekdays but see a few groups lvling there on weekends. Players are simply playing less, or finding other more productive ways to spend their time. However, from this, the world has gotten smaller and now you have the ability to see those that play a lot, less noobs play because their reps are destroyed, and relationships with those you alrdy know as the 1 yr anniversary of PS2 release is out is now being strengthened. From the time that I have put into this game, from lvling, from quests, from farming, from staring blankly at LS websites because I wanted to be an "active" player I see now why many players get 1 or 2 jobs to 75 and are pretty much satisfied with that end result. In marketing, we are in the maturity stage of the product life cycle stage, eventually we will enter the decline stage. From reading several of the latest posts about ppl pretty much quitting FFXI I wonder when we'll start seeing the open HNM camps and other things. Something tells me that by June or July, an uncontested HNM camp may actually be fathomable just from the way ppl are quitting and the way we are declining as a server. By then, I probably won't be playing as much as I am now either.
