Haven't you heard, I'm still stuck on teh character creation screen. I've narrowed it down to 6B or 5A.

Taru.

Cause he knows Taru's kick ass. That and he doesn't want to be associated with the term Manthra. Afterall, that gay player... what's the name.... ah yes, Deadlegend is a manthra.....

That would be enough to scare me away. \:D/

Great topic.

I think that KFC had a lot to do with the problems on ifrit in terms of accomplishments. Before the Claim fix there was NO ENDGAME for any NA players... resulting in people who quit, as well as leaving endgame shells starving for HNM experience. I'm not sure on exact numbers....but do you know how many total king kills were done by anyone but KFC/SO/Murabot's LS(forget the name)? not very fucking many. An aspi or 2, 1 KB, 1 or 2 fafs, and 1 or 2 nids. That's fucking disgusting. And people were only fortunate enough to get those kills because of overlapping windows and KFC could make one camp or another.

The result? A ballooning NA endgame population full frustrated players. Remember how people(the whole NA portion of the server lol) used to cheer the NA linkshells when they'd finally claim a king? People would come out just to watch someone other than the JPs kill something. The community had a big "us vs them" mentality toward the JPs and it was probably the only time we got along lol.

Then came the claim patch...

People stopped being happy for others when they got nice shit and would become jealous/bitter, and all of a sudden everyone's turned on each other. A "starving" endgame population + limited availability of NMs = the server we have today. Kings are as fiercely competed for as they were years ago, because we had to wait 2 fucking years to fight them. Everyone's stuck in aery trying to get shit they should have got a long time ago instead of killing new sstuff and delving into uncharted territory(when it comes to endgame).

lol I know this sounds like a big "blame kfc" post but people don't realize how much impact they had and how it still affects us today.

Will post more later

Isn't it hard for anyone here to answer really accurately unless you played on another serveR? I wish Killuminati still posted here (well, only a little)

Shit it's disgusting how many extra m.bodies, e.bodies, etc. that KFC and the other major jp shells got that just went to rot on players that wanted it for jobs that were not even level 30.

I don't think that the strong grip the jp's had on Ifrit was part of the problem, I don't think it's the entire problem.

You do make a good point though Dalek.

Whats up Dalek! Long time no see.

On page 2 of this thread, Sev said he has a character on Bismarck. He has a pearl to one of the most dominate NA LS on that server (and across all servers). So his comments hold some merit. He pretty much said what Dalek said, just lesser detail.

I wouldnt give KFC all the credit. I do like to think I was pretty responsible for keeping all the other HNMLS down as long as I could. I created positive PR for CKD and so much Negative PR for everyone else. I did this so that people never felt like they could really get to experience the HNM end game if they were not in CKD.

It did a pretty good job of keeping Sky clear for a while (until Aaime disbanded with a few CKD and started a new LS for sky and people jumped to that assuming that it would be the same CKD Sky experiance since it was run by Ex-CKD members).

Sky should have been "instanced" by linkshell somehow.

I don't blame KFC necessarily because I think if any NA shell of young people with no time except to play this game could do the same thing then I am sure they would have. My finger of blame is pointed directly at SE for milking the spoils of a game that should have been as fun as the solo final fantasy games into a mirage of timesinks that involved travel time, seeking times, leveling grinds, repetitive crafting bs, farming money and 24 hour pop timers consisting of 3 hour hour intervals because they knew that the longer it took for players to do things the more months someone would be almost forced to play. Although negative, one can learn what a money-making machine this business was and still is. The only magic to come out of it was "community" and forums!

Exactly right. I've been playing since the PC release and I have seen the frustration players have shown with this whole mess. We've been cock-blocked by asshole JPs with bots, just because they want to slow us down and grief us. This interference is not something Square planned for, they never expected one group to keep camping every single spawn for 2+ years.

Since this problem went unresolved for such a long time, there's a massive bottleneck of NA trying get the loot they've been waiting for. There's a finite rate of gear dropping from Kings, and that's causing the backup to grow with every passing day.

What really contributes to this problem is the unique design of FFXI, that you can level multiple jobs on the same character. Since there is a limited rate of gear dropping from mobs, and more and more people are leveling multiple jobs, there is a growing shortage of Rare/Ex gear. As people level every job, they want a copy of every nice piece of Rare/Ex gear to go with it. This can be easily seen because the prices of good gear (despite a continuous generation of more and more pieces of that gear by drops or crafting) are still high. Sure RMT has artificially increased the prices on occasion, but the fact remains the demand for such gear is not going down as fast as it has in other games.

The hatred we have for each other is most definitely spawned from this frustration and resulting jealousy. This jealousy and hatred has even gone so far as to encourage people to cheat and do whatever they can to get this gear, defeating the very purpose of this game. If you hack to get gear, what's the point? You may as well just hack the game so you never die, beat everything, and finally quit.

Personally, I believe they could fix this game if the moved away from a claim based system for all mobs. There are other ways to make gear difficult (but not impossible) to obtain, why not make the mobs more challenging? or make more point oriented stuff like we have with assault? I've beaten most of the mobs in this game with my LS, and the ones I haven't are usually because of claim issues or simply hard limits like dynamis entry delays.

Yeah you're the effing reason we're still stuck in the stone age. you ass.

But I take a loot at the other leaders of the LS's and, although I don't know all of them personally, I tend to see a trend of "ass." not because they're in a leadership position, but just because they truely are asses. It's a problem, there need to be some good-hearted people running LS's

when you have good hearted people running lses you get your members walking all over you, and jumping ship to other lses. Remember the bottom line is to "win" not to have fun and be nice to eachother.

WHAT DID WE JUST TALK ABOUT? lol Gonna go get ponuh's picture again.

Its not about being 'asses' or 'nice' its about trust. This community was polarized to the point where associating with other linkshells could get you booted. I remember when FS or some LS called just about everyone on the server to zerg vrta for the hell of it. I showed up with alot of other people, and I think one from CKD who was possibly booted for showing up or at least threatened I heard at the time. That was so wishy-washy I hate even using it as an example, but I do remember it being an issue at the time I was there in KRT and in the CSB LS.

People never talked, people never joined other shells for dynamis, limbus, or wyrms. Zerging got such a bad name people just avoided it. The bridge of communication between linkshells and their leaders was non-exsistent (edit: actually I don't know this to be true, I do remember yarr-vaelen related while Cheeseburgers was still on, although I can't remember/pinpoint the time FS got slammed, I think it was the darter fiasco anyway...) save for when they logged on to forums to yell at each other. You can be nice or you can be an ass, but leadership boils down to respect and trust and the reciprication of such by your members. A Care Bear could run a linkshell Jim, but you have to know when to lay down the law.
