sorry to bother. just finished updating and keep getting "POL has encountered a problem and needs to close" message right after i selected character. anyone knows how to fix this? i checked the error report and it says something about ffximain.dll file. i swapped the file on my second pc (which is running the game fine) but still get the same message...

i'll call SE in a few hrs but i know i'll probably be put on hold for 30min+ and be told that it's a window problem, call microsoft, or something like that.

im using windows xp, no windower or any third party program involved. any help is appreciated.

hm, usually only happens when running windower but you say you aren't using it.. so i'm not really sure.

maybe just reboot your pc lol XD

called SE, rep told me might be connection problem... my ass. told him the game runs fine on my second pc, can't be connection problem. he said he doesn't know then. so much for technical support. guess ima try reinstall windows and ffxi and see what happens. thanks for all the help.

I'd run the file checker before you do all that.

do not reinstall windows! Rename your PlayOnline folder to something like Playonline1337 then install FFXI to a new default PlayOnline folder, before you login change the name of the new folder and make the old one PlayOnline again when you login it will do a quick file check and probably work again, worked for me months ago anyway.

try system restore, the last time SE had a big update, alot of ppl had a log in error and SE told them to reinstall, restoring to b4 the update fixed the error

Upper jeuno was dcing a friend of mine.

There's a little announcement about connectivity issues but all it says is that their kickass team of experts found no problem, so it is in fact your fault you keep losing connection.

just a follow up, i unplugged my routers power supply and plugged back in (i use dsl) and it fixed the problem in 1 zone, gonna test more soon

I haven't run into any instant dc zones yet. My connection's been shit lately but every time I dc from ffxi my computer goes offline too so it's a separate issue from what everyone else is experiencing.

i did the unplug power supply thing to reset my IP address, and it fixed thosezones, but new zoens did it to me...ive done it a third time now and to jinx myself, it hasnt happened yet

good god why do people always want to reinstall windows, id it a problem with the FFXI.dll reinstalling the game the way i mentioned will save you from a days worth of downloads ><

yeah, best way to do a reinstall is to install a full working copy, delete all files/directory from new install, then copy over from the other machine with the working ffxi install
