doesnt matter what it does or how it performs, ffxi will always fall back on the old Zilart jobs. People are way to lazy to try to do things any different.

There's a nice little explanation translation on the FFXIclopedia main page of how Scholar will work. It's sort of a horrible translation but this is my summary.

Apparently they will get a "White Book" and a "Black Book." They're JA's on Short timer's similar to Hasso and Seigan. While using each JA, Spell MP costs and potency are modified for each school of magic. Now the interesting part to me, is that these abilities work as subs. And can boost magic potency for jobs without the main skills. The example they used was a WHM using "Grimoire of Black" and being able to Drain for full capacity with no Dark Magic Skill. This leads me to believe that Scholar will actually get Drain as a spell.

Now they are detirmental to the offending school of magic as well. A WHM using "Grimoire of Black" will have increased healing costs but more effective Black Magic. The cooldown of each Book appears to be around 4 minutes. But you save the timer up to 3 intervals for quick swapping.

They're also getting unique spells but i didn't understand that part at all. All i got from it was they are "weather" based". We might be looking at SE's answer to Geomancer. But i think they did it this way because it sounds liek Scholar is going to be some kinda kickass mage sub while at the same time being the new magic damage dealer we so desperately need.


There's a dancer section as well if someone wants to try to understand that mess. The only interesting part i saw was "provocation effect."

Except TP burnz! But BLU sux for TP burnz cuz it uses MP zomga! And cor relies on luck so let's get a brd! Pup has C+ H2H so they automatically suck no matter how much gil they put into their puppet ><

We don't desperately need a new magic damage dealer. They desperately need to make BLM more party friendly. But Scholar will be more party friendly cuz it'll be a healer job as well. So you can go to your end game events as scholar then when you die a lot you can go to merit parties and main heal to build buffer back ><

I hope the next new job is gladiator and gets the doublehand trait. Holding 1 handed weapons in both hands might actually be worthwhile after the 2handed update.
