i have found what seems to be a way around this problem. all credit goes to Judah from Bahamut server (and Zigma too). if this works for you and want to rate up my post, i wouldn't mind =P "Judah" wrote: First - Download HTTP-Tunnel http://www.http-tunnel.com/httptunnel_setup.exe Second - Download SocksCap http://archive.socks.permeo.com/11899811/sc32r236.exe Ok now heres where it gets fun- *Open HTTP-Tunnel and go to Settings > Configure Firewall *Make sure its at autodetect - To be honest, if you do have some firewall or proxy this is where you do your own thing - personally im at school right now and behind a firewall, and leaving it on autodetect works for pushing POL through HTTP-Tunnel. *Now, leaving that open, open SocksCap and push New "Zigma" wrote: Edit: OK, I figured out what's wrong. When you load up Sockcap, Make sure after you configure the auto-detect, go to file > settings and for SOCK server put "localhost" port should be 1080. *Push browse, and select your POL.exe - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You should be set ~ To answer some questions - like wtf you just did - this will make POL run through a free service provided by HTTP-Tunnel (much thx), but when you get to character selection, it will return to your normal connection. Yes, during the time of going through POL it will be SLOW.. because HTTP-Tunnel free is 1k down.. so bare with it - just push through and get on. You will know if its not working if on your HTTP-Tunnel window you dont see connections being made while you're logging in to POL etc. i've personally done this and was able to log into POL, start up FFXI and go all the way to the character selection screen (which seemed enough to me at which point i bolted out the door cause i was late for work). DO NOT INFORM Optimum Online odds are this violates some crap in their Terms of Service and they will have technicians on this in 10 seconds to shut it down. i repeat DO NOT INFORM Optimum Online |

I have been workin with POL and my group since yesterday morning when I found this problem. It's not being pushed aside. Expecially since I am making sure the admins figure this out. I work with the RFDN group within cablevision. So far though its not leading to be on cable's end... |

:x :x :x Just follow the above steps to a T. It works on the OOL network. I have done it on 4 pc's so far. I can't vouch if you have a router and can't get on though. If so set yourself as dmz host. |

Quick update, My friend was givin an account and FFXI in my shop to test form SE, and it works fine from Hicksville, LI (the main headend for OOL). We suspect one other thing, I got permission to go home to run some tests from my house and do some more sniffing. They are opening some parts of sandvine going to my house to see if it may resolve the issue. If it don't it's something server side... Will keep ya posted ![]() |

I was on the phone with the manager of the call center earlier. We received over 800 unique calls in 2 days from ppl about this problem. Some ppl call up 5+ times a day complaining about how we are taking away their lives lol. Since I am the only guy in the group who plays FFXI, we are performing tests in my area to help determine where this is happening tonight. First shutting down the firewall to my area to see that helps ![]() |

Well after much testing tonight, even shutting down our firewalls had no effect on connection. I made some captures of a successful login with a tunnel going and ones where I can't connect. One of the managers was given an account from POL to test at work, we can login fine from our main headend.....but packets may be taking a diff path. Got some analyzing to do tomorrow of these captures. So far tonight we did find that the path the packets took in the headend compared to them taking at my house differ only in 2 places. One place is in the kddnet network...the other is a direct peer to them (both are in japan). Again, no issue on USA side... I feel like im helping solve a murder case here.... :| |

Yea I seen that when u login to pol. Well when I went into work today the director asked me what was going on with this issue. After I told him where it works and where it doesn't he walked over to the admins and said straight out "I want this fixed today" So now we have the entire team of admins on the issue today. We made a couple changes and a few ppl have been fixed. I still cant login from the headend I am in now. So let's see what happens, but we have narrowed down where the cause is tremendously. |

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot WE GOT IT!!!!! oh btw, THIS WAS NOT CABLEVISION AT ALL!!!!! KDDNET had maintenance on monday night when this problem started happening. But the said they fixed everything. Our 2 main peers to get to japan go through Chicago and Ashburn and they peer to KDDNET. We rebuilt the entire route to go through Sprint, straight to the POL servers. Result: Now friend list and main menu loads MUCH faster then even before all this mess. Enjoy everyone. :P |

What ended up being the problem? |
Author: | Ghostsinger [ Fri Oct 01, 2004 11:17 am ] |
Post subject: | |
Since we don't own kddnet, we cannot say for sure. We will be contacting them soon as they are one of our private peers. Sprint is a public peer which costs money to use them. What I do know is that kddnet we often receive notices about equipment going down or problems happening within that network. So this may fix other problems even within the game (random dc's) Now I don't know if this change is permanent. |
