Post subject:  Rank 5....Now the Newb Frontier?
I can remember a time when rank 5 stood for something. It meant you were good at your job, and could use your abilities efficiently. It meant you knew how to make a skillchain, and how to magic burst. It meant you could organize a good party, and you understood what jobs mix well together. It showed others that you had a good grasp on the game, because the rank 5 missions are no joke. I no longer believe this is true.

Now I see almost everyone past lvl 40 is rank 5+, and yet I still have parties where those who are rank 5+ don't know how to skillchain, or especially magic burst. The tanks don't keep hate very well, and the pullers have no knowledge of the area, or which mobs aggro, and therefore get links. Even more annoying, I'll get an invite and spend 20 minutes getting to the camp spot, only to have the group disband 15 minutes later. This happens alot.

I am guessing most people are "rushed" through all the missions, and mostly PL'd through their 30s. Those of us who played from the NA release, we pretty much had to do everything for ourselves. Of course we occasionally had JP help, but we took pride in learning our jobs well, because we wanted to be the best we could possibly be. Now, very few NAs have the pioneering attitude that once existed.

So in conclusion, consider Rank 5 the new noob frontier. Don't assume they know what they are doing. :wink:

Dont just consider ALL rank 5 noob frontier...

I've been playing this game just as long as most of you here, just havnt leveled as highly ;-;

The only reason I'm no higher than Rank 5 is because nobody will group long enough or put a date to actually go and get the rank 5 missions done!!

Its uber frustrating.

I can't even remember how many times ive gotten a random /tell like..

I also remember that getting to rank 4 and 5 were big accomplishments for me. Rank 4, the mission in delkfutts tower; there were 3 of us (see the pic in sig), lvl 40-42 or so. We crept our way up the tower, trying not to get aggro, nearly dying more than once from onslaughts of goblins. But we made it to the top, managed to take out the NM for the keys, and finished the mission. It was the most exciting adventure i had experienced in the game thus far.
Rank 5...i didnt even get until i was lvl 50. Rrale took me to davoi to get that crest easily. Then we went to oztroja, just the two of us...now that was an adventure, so many close calls, and having to duo 2 (even match i think) yags at the end. Took about 6 people to beadeaux for that part. After i got my new rank, and stepped onto the airship...i really felt like i had jumped into the next part of the game, was no longer some little lowbie guy.

But yeah, now i see people getting rank 4 before lvl 30, rank 5 before 40...just having high-lvl people do it all for them. I dont like that one bit.

I'm rank 5 Bastok....but I'm also rank 10 sandy...to me ur a noob until you get 6...since a regular noob cant really down the shadowlord 8) In rank 5 defense tho, i have met a lot of rank 5 people that are awesome at their job. But it is sad that mostly everyone is PL'd these days. I remember starting RNG up and being in the dunes...i think only one or two of my pt's i got into weren't bein pl'd somehow. What really pisses me off is seeing someone on the airship with you that is lvl 22 no sub, rank 2...someone was supporting the gil sellers :?

Hey, I don't post here much but I can see what u mean. I have been playing since the ps2 realease and I just recently got rank 5. But I can see what you mean. I lately have been getting pty's where people where rank 5 in the late 40's and honestly I can't figure out how they ever got out of the dunes. These people are only trying to level as fast as the can and it very much shows. I have had some RDM's that were in lvl 20 gear w/ no dispel or refresh at level 45!!. Now I am no rdm but I know that refresh is very cheap but I can some what understand w/ dispel. But these rdm's also thought they should be on the front lines and not even cast a cure 1 ever. So I can see your point. I for one took honor when i was able to get rank 4 at 35 and then rank 5 at 44. I was able to solo part's of the rank 5 some how. But from what you said I can completely aggre w/ u.

The best players u will Find will be the 1st wave of Na players. I remeber all this Stuff being soooo Hard now ppl think they are a joke...

yes i had high level help getting rank 4 and 5

yes i can keep hate like no other, start a skillchain, and on my very 1st char. i was a mage and i could MB
it's funny b/c in the jungles people were constantly amazed at me being a taru tank and being able to keep hate so well without dying that for my short time in jungle i was known as "hate machine" lmao
i havent partied with war in at least 3 months so im prolly forgotten about ; ;

the only thing i can think of that i dont do that rank 5 should is have a good supply/ remember to bring a supply of food with you to party

the whole parties breaking up 20 min. after starting annoys the hell out of me. if you dont have at least an hour to play after party forms find something else to do

Heh.... I got Rank 5 at 35 because some random group wanted to complete a PT for it and so I kindly asked and they allowed me to come, providing I didn't get them killed (WHICH I DIDN'T ^.~, they got themselves 0wned in Oztroja...)

But yeah...I'm seeing a bunch of people ~50ish (where I am) who can hardly do anything right in the PT.

But, alas, I have yet to encounter a completely TERRIBLE PT, besides one in Boyahda Tree where we had a Rank 5 tank who had NO CLUE what SATA was, died in 5 hits from a spider (WITH Cure IIIs and such), AND had the nerve to blame the deaths of himself and the mages on me and the DRG... the ONLY successful SATA I pulled off in that fight was when the spider turned on one of the mages and the tank was lucky to be behind it -.-

Gotta say, the only reason I have Rank 5 at level 42 is because the people in my current Linkshell were Kind enough to help all non-rank 5 members get it at the same time, just so everyone could have it. Heck tell you the truth, if it wasn't for the Awesome people in my LS I would probably still be Rank 3.

Response to mikey-Hmmm. Actually hes treated me better than alot of other players even leant me 200k at 1 time. You guys fail to not the Real Pricks of the game i wont mention any names but some ppl here have done some pretty F**** up shit...like MPK'ing at Yuhtunga or zoning to Delkfutts tower while Krakn was there pet and it aggroing everyone...
but racism cant be passed and everybody does it to be honost..
