Post subject:  What's CKD's linkshell origins...?
I wanted to know how did CKD originate? (I have heard stories and rumors). Not only that, why is the pearl yellow? Where did name come from? What were the initial requirements? When was it started? Who were initial sack holders? What were the other top LSs when CKD started? Sorry for my spark of curiosity, but I have been wondering how all the top LS's got started. As you can see many haven't lasted.

well ckd's color started cause yarr thought the urine color was rather funny haha, i was and still am * cough a nut sack holder. Most of us came from the the broken hokuten. This was there first fall out. Umm from what i remember hokuten broke like umm 3 times. Me yarr and a few others were part of the original hokuten. Fun fact me yarr whisp shiloh were originally together in a perm party, and i must say i loved these guys (still do) from the day i met them till now and among the most trusted people i know

hokuten didn't have any requirments that was one of there original problems in fact they let pretty much anyone in. CKDs requirements were lvl 65 and above, then 2 weeks later we put it to 70, which honestly was unheard of. Simply because there weren't many lvl 70s when ckd was made. We are about to hit about year soon i thinks

The original CKDs were all from Hokutens. No one really left Hokuten at that time, besides Yarr getting pearl broken by someone for no reason. But we helped Yarr start CKD since he didn't want back in Hokuten.

Most of those original CKDs, are also the first few to hit 75 I think, from the NA communities.

At that time most of us still had both ckd and hokuten pearls.

Then later hokuten developed their own mind and started hating us =p cus we were supposely "loot whores" or something like that. So our hokuten pearls broke one by one.

Then CKD just started recruiting and blah blah blah

i decide to join CKD because Yarr > Piro.
Pirotess is very bad at personality. he cursed at us a lot when we do Sandy mission 9-1 without him. even though i don't like yarr much at that time. lol. hccmike, ilma, kayne, limt, skye, dragonb those people i usually exp and do mission toghether. So we stay in the same ls.

Haha yeah We were all in Hokuten and Alot of the higher lvl player such As Kayne ilma Hcc and stuff were kinda of sick on all the noobs in the LS begging for help and one Day piro decided to Break yarr's pearl and tell him no one Ever like him and all this Trash that was a lie so yarr made a LINKshell that was one fo this old Giulds from DOAC and they were abunch of ppl who were Ruthless and always had a pt of like 6 and took about 10 guys vs 1 before they died and known as the A?? holes of the Server. But when Yarr make CKD on ifrit he Gave me a pearl andUpfraded to sac and told me "Take this pearl this is going to be the Next big LS on the Server. Everyone is going to want in it" i was ok then weeks later yarr invited Ilma Kayne basicly all the Key players from Hokuten and Called loot whores and what not then we organized alot of Stuff. And We had the lvl cap as 60 and i was 61 at the time then we went to 65 then 70 then 75 and then got more detailed in req and then we Worked as a LS to help Everyone get sky and Everything they needed to meet the LS req. You will find alot of the Oringal CKD members will eb the ones with the Sacs but again some ppl have dropped there Sacs due to inv space lol. But only Reason we are still around is b/c we like to have fun as friends and we Set our goals and congratz Each other (i.e Kayne's Black belt, Fafnir, kirin) stuff like that.

LOL we were called loot whores? LOL thats funny cause i never won anything from Hokuten i was constantly harrassed and yelled at to help, and even told to hate yarr lol. I have my my own damn mind. Only things i have won are af pieces from ckd dynamis, those are completely random, there isn't any possible way i could be labeled a loot whore. Yea but to be honest the fall outs of hokuten were caused by pirotess himself, he never really realized how good his ls was until he was finally gone.

I've never even met Pirotess (seen her plenty) but I've heard enough (not to mention seen the shouting matches in Lower Jeuno) to know and remember that she was infamously unstable as a leader.

Heh, I got a pearl on the day CKD was made also (from Azn :D ).

But I was never in hokuten... but I guess I never really hung around CKD much either... until CKD started having enough people to really do stuff. There was a while where CKD wasn't really doing much except lvling, since not that many ppl were 75.

Heh and even when I hit 75, there still wasn't much going on, so I lvled Samurai.... and then things got interesting once we started doing sky crap and Cassie, serket, and all the HNM :) (oh yeah, and that ended my exp. gaining right then and there)

I got kicked out of hokuten by pirotess in december 03, and my then-roommate Thunderstomp (Wes irl) dropped his hokuten pearl a few days before that because he hated the drama.

A week later, TS and I met Yarr and we decided to put together a perma party (Talisin didn't join because TS and Tal were both Dragoons). This was around lvl 42 like around new years. Anyway, I grabbed my pals Scyth and Nippler and we partied with several tanks (Johnpaul, Shadowknight, Lars, etc.) until we found Shiloh who rocked our world lol.

Perma split up when Scyth & TS quit it around lvl 63 in March (at that point, Mikey had already replaced nippler). By lvl 67 (April) I couldn't find a party so I quit the game for about 2 months. When I came back in June, Yarr had this Pee colored linkshell that supposedly killed a notorious monster. I didn't have a LS and I was glad to find my old perma party in it, so I joined up. I wouldve joined when it started but I had quit the game. Also, there weren't any other NM linkshells at the time. CKD was first. Fate-Sealers already existed though, they just didn't really do any hunting or sky that we knew about. And there was Hokuten of course, who swelled up all bloated and burst. I like being in CKD basically because TS, Yarr, Shiloh, Mikey, and a lot of my other friends are in it. A lot of the people in CKD play like 10 hours a day, so there are always people on.

hi dumbass. I was not, and still am not 68. I was like 50 or so lol.

Yarr walked up to my in port jeuno and forced me to take a pearl...so I did, lol. I think at that time I played a lot more and they actually thought I would reach 75 in a decent time.

Ah, remembering the days.

I joined Hokuten about 3 or 4 weeks before all this drama started and Yarr was booted out. To be honest I felt pretty intimidated because I didn't know any of these people despite being at least somewhat close in level. I gt my Hokuten pearl from Nesso doing Bastok/San 6-1 in western altepa. If I remember correctly I forgot to flag the mission. lol Shortly after Yarr's pearl was broken, I was tooling around in Qufim with Koda, and found Yarr powerleveling Azn. He gave me a pearl shortly after the ls was made. I think I was only level 62 or something at the time. lol

Tal had the most information, the problem is you cant understand any of it with out a translator.

The Origin of the name.

I cant take credit for the CKD name. CKD was created in Dark Age of Camelot. Basically CKD in DAOC was full of the most skilled players on the server (and me hoho). We had about 11 people in the guild and everyone hated us. they hated us because we were better than them. Well, that and we did our fair share of griefing and stuff like that. We never cheated however. Anyway, basically like tal said, CKD was a collection of the most skilled players who didnt care about anything but having fun, everyone knew it was a game and everyone used first names RL names. It was an awesome time, it was an awesome game.

Why and When I made the CKD pearl.

When I started in FFXI I joined up with old friends from DAOC. Youll never start a game with friends from an old game and stick with them (at least not with more than 2-3), things change, people make new friends, people join other guilds\linkshells. I knew all to well about this so I bought my ass yellow CobraKaiDojo linkshell and put it in my safe. I bought it really early in the game with every intention of making what it is today. I got the pearl even before I knew Whisp. I gave tal a pearl one day and told him that I would make that linkshell into something one day.

The Yarr Vs Pirotess issue.

I really got annoyed with pirotess. The reality was that he had no self control. It didnt matter how many times I helped him, no matter how much I had done in the past. If for some reason I wasnt able to help him, he lost control. He would go on and on about how I never help him, how Im so selfish and how he does so much for me and I never help him. He was so damn frustrating.
I also couldnt stand how Piro invited just anyone into the linkshell. We use to joke about how piro sat in the starter towns giving pearls to people who shouted for help, but, he would rely on us to help them. The general feeling of the high levels was that we couldnt just focus on stuff we wanted. Hokuten was like some kind of place where lowbies could pop in, shout for help then if no one helped they would cry and go back to their real linkshell.
I hated it.
Then one day Pirotess asked me for help on some stupid AF quest for someones SMN (not even his) and I didnt have time and I didnt want to. Like clockwork, he lost control. He once again started to lash out and all that crap. I just ignored him, I hardly talked to him for like a week. It was nice.
Then, out of the blue he starts messaging me telling me all sorts of garbage, things like "Im removing you from the shell because we dont like you", "you dont help people and youre selfish". Basically he was telling me that he was going to break my pearl because no one in this linkshell liked me, that no one would even notice I was gone. He was really trying to ruin the game for me. He was "going to prove I had no friends ingame" and by doing that wanted to see me quit.
God knows im not that easy to get rid of. I took my pearl off before he could break it. I laughed at him and told him I didnt need him, that people didnt need to put up with his poor leadership (or lack off leadership).

Inviting people.

Basically I invited the people who I liked from CKD. The people who I thought brought the most life, skill and fun to Hokuten. I also invited the people I knew had a problem with all the lowbies. The old hokuten was alot differnt, it was just over populated with people who begged for help. My goal was to create a HNM linkshell. Of course there were non on the server and I think kayne at the time was the only level 75 NA player. So I just created it as a "start".
I first went to quifm and gave a pearl to ilma and Azn. From there I gave pearls out to all the people who I wanted to see in linkshell. SS was our token black friend. hoho Im kidding SS. I invited SS because while he was new he had a lot of praise from the people I respected.
Dispite all that pirotess said, I never asked people to leave hokuten. I just made a new shell for people to goto to do "end game" stuff. We all did our AF quests and Level Limit Quests. CKD was the first generation of high level NA players. We had to do all this by our selves. Having to go back and help every other lazy low level NA do it got stressing. I mean we were the people who had to bring a full alliance to try and get a paper for LB1. We were the people who had to make groups just to kill Gouls for a Skull since we didnt know anyone over level 18.
So, it was frustrating to have people /tell you and expect you to go spend a full week with them to get all the avatars, or to kill the LB2 mobs and stuff like that. Dont get me wrong, CKD wasnt above helping people. We always did our part and helped new players. We just did it when we could. We didnt have that obligation to do it since they were "a linkshell mate".

anyway thats basically it. CKD now is still the same linkshell. Its a collection of the best players on Ifrit. I can log into FFXI any time and know that theres something stupid and funny going on.

yarr is a good linkshell leader. he may be overwhelmed some of the time, or make mistakes now and then like all of us, but in the end the stability of ckd is a statement of his leadership.

I wasn't a member of the original CKD. I can tell you what I think CKD is today though.

When I look back to joining CKD it's those very players that Yarr named as originals that motivated me. I too was in Hokuten, and had a great deal of admiration for the "highbies" lol. I wanted to be them someday. I knew that each and every one of them had to struggle to get to where they were. I knew they were honest in how they played. CKD isn't just a linkshell of high level players. It's a linkshell of honest, hardworking people. Like Yarr said though, most importantly it's a linkshell of friends that are willing to help each other, but not cry like babies when it can't be done immediately. I thank CKD and Yarr for taking the game beyond what I ever expected, and for pushing me to reach for a higher end game.
