Went to log on -- started some kind of update then message comes up - an unexpected problem has occurred.

Now I can't even get on at all. I click on the icon and it won't even open to POL.

Anyone know what's going on?

Try shooting an arrow through the monitor that always works for me. If that doesn't work try uninstall/re-installing POL.

Happened to me when I tried to update using my toaster (( codename for windower lol ))

I was an idiot and did it twice too.

First time it told me to reinstall ffxi, and shortly after it fucked my whole PC up and I had to hardware restore everything to factory settings. Reinstall POL, FFXi, everythign.

The second time it happened I was prepared, i backed up everything important, ect ect. But then i discovered my PC has this thing where you can reset your comp to a previous date. That worked perfectly, I set it to an hour before I had updated and everything was fine. I used Normal POL and got the update fine.

SO if you tried to update using a toaster, either do that set-to-a previous date thingy, or reinstall ffxi. :/ Thats all I know, sorry cyn <3

I've heard of this update screwing up several people now, and so far all of them were using a windower at the time. Admittedly probably like half of the population uses one, but it's a point to make nonetheless.

Supposedly it's a problem concerning either A) running multiple windows, or B) not unloading dll's properly. What happens is if you update your game while the files you are updating are locked (because they're already in use) the game is unable to update them, but the game THINKs it has updated them.

So what you basically end up with is half an update, but the game thinks it downloaded the update successfully.

If you have this problem, system restore your PC. It will clock back some files and fool your game into thinking it hasn't downloaded the update yet, so it will redownload it when you try to log in.

Here's a simple way around all the hassle. When you see an update (You know the screen where it wants you to click the 'Update' button) cancel out of it and restart PoL without your windower. haha
