Post subject:  Who was your inspiration?

saw a post similar to this on allakhazam and figured it was worth making a post about it here.

Who inspired you to play your job and be the best you could be at your job? This could be someone you resent because of competition, or someone you totally look up to for being a veritable treasure-trove of knowledge about the game.

for me personally i'm going to have to give props first and foremost to my man:

Kayel. Retired 75MNK from CSB, though he still pops on occasionally for events and things, also i think some of the other csb cats may have his info and use him. Helped me out tremedously when I was first getting my bearings in the game. Whether it be information, help with quests and missions, or just there to lead by example. He has always been there to answer any questions I had, help me keep my head cool when certain upsetting things happened to me in the game, and was always a role model with whom i still to this day try to impress with each new goal I accomplish. Hey K if you're reading this: 75SMN/75WHM ^^ thank you.

Tiothiel. Retired 75BLM. Met Tio in ttk, she was always on top of her game. Whether it be having the best gear, raking in thousands of exp a night, or always having any and all information about anything pertaining to ffxi on hand at all time, Tio could not be bested by me (and lord knows I tried) or anyone. But her impression on me didn't stop there, later when we left ttk to start TC she showed me what a true in-game friendship is like and the things she taught me about endgame (about people and events) has proved invaluble in her absence. Tio, if you're reading this: I miss you like crazy and hope for a day we get to play together again.

Grimblade. 75WHM TTK Althought Grim and I have had our differences and I'm not too sure either of us particularly care for eachother anymore. He did in fact teach me a lot about being a good whm: salt and pepper cures to conserve mp, keeping ss, rr, and blink up, sticking haste and regen to the tanks, etc etc. I could go on about how many things I learned by watching him. I'll never forget the first genbu fight i ever went on where I watched grim run beside hyperact while he kited; sprinkling cures on him. I thought I knew a lot about whm til that moment lol.

Madisonlee, Darkrikku, and Aerimus. 3 of the server's top NA SMNs in my opinion, used to always see them just chilling around jeuno looking all pimp, being all high in this mysterious job I knew nothing of and had all these fearful reservations about. Were always there to keep me inpsired about the job, drooling over the damage they did whenever i was fortunate enough to see them in the field, and to answer any and all questions i had about the job, in fact I'm now looking forward to possibly exping or doing some fun things with them now that I've joined their ranks as 75smn.

There are a ton of other folks who have inspired me or made me go out and lvl a job based on how cool, fun, and/or easy they made it look, but those are the ppl who really stick out in my mind. A big thanks to all of you, if you're reading. Now let's here some who inspired y'all.

peace
~Jim

Good thread idea (even if you stole it haha)

I almost never went to Japanese players for help. I did all my AF quests on my own with NA players only. Well Reyback helped a little, but he was one of the few non NA players involved heavily with the NA community. I only had one person who I liked and went to for help.

Alist:
Level 70 SMN Taru when I met him (70 was the cap ;p). I was asking him how hard the BCNMs for the Avatars were. Like all Japanese players he was telling me that they were super hard. I asked what level a WHM could go to help out. he told me I would have to be around level 50+ (At that time I was 30 and the highest level player was Kayne or Wang at like 45ish)
He eventually helped me get an avatar when I was level 56. He actually helped me with a few questions here and there.

When I hit level 70ish he dissapeared. A few months later he was playing again and he was more than impressed to see how well I had made for myself in this game.

When I first started playing I was an Elvaan WAR. I met Cherie and partied with him as BLM - he had the gayest macros but I'm sure we all did at that point. After seeing him nuking as a BLM cat I decided to reroll a Mithra and play a mage job. That was my first kind of inspiration. lol

Then I leveled THF and met Awhong (More than likely spelled wrong - the Galka MNK) he was from DLS which Elysa was really close with so he would help us with stuff. I saw him in Sky and at Hakutaku raping EVERYTHING and pretty much soloing as MNK/NIN and I was like "wtf mate Why the hell did I level THF?!"

Then I went MNK. lol

Then I met Kayne...

Umm 2 blms pushed me.

Skyler was literally the first person i interacted with just outside of windy. We were both blms. He talked to me about how blms in this game were so needed, that they were a strong class. I guess that helped push me to staying blm. When he hit lvl 30 something blm he decided to switch to rdm and quit blm altogether. I think his reasons were because people were asking him to heal too much lol.

Hccmike.. Now this guy lol. Yea i remember him from my really old ls. No matter how fast i lvled. He was a step ahead of me, he always the top spells, always was on top of things and continued to pave the way into my heart LOL cheesey line.

I had a couple of other people who've inspired me. Not the job class just the person lol

The PLD that I thought was awesome when I was leveling up was probably Peejo... funny thing is she probably didn't like me for a while but we reconciled later.

Well, I started out as THF to make tons of money, but there were many times along the way where I wanted to quit it (and I probably should have since they took out Astral Rings from Oztroja...), but I wasn't going to let Koda be the only Lv75 NA THF, so I kept going! Koda was my THF idol :D Poor guy got shafted by the Thief's Knife NM so many times lol ^^;

Xalterax - He was a close friend in my old perma who always pushed all of us to be the very best. He helped with everything any of us needed and never put himself before the rest of the perma. Props also to the rest of my perma Urzasoltan, Azaell, Dulyapun, and Bigchief, all of who have retired from the game, for making this game so enjoyable. I'll soon be joining them in the retiree home as the last one of us to quit the game.

First it was Griffis from SO. I saw him running around in Dalmatica and such back when I was like level 30 and thought he was the coolest RDM ever.

Then it was Shadowstalker. I ran into him for the first time in Delkfutts. I was helping some lsmates get Rank4, he was on his way up to Steller Fulcrum for the ZM8 fight I assume. He knew one of the people in my group so he offerred to help us get up to the 10th floor. He came off so arrogant and snotty pretty much everyone in my ls hated him. My ls used to call me Shadowstalker whenever I started acting cocky, and it always pissed me off. I was determined after that to become a better RDM than him :p

I don't think I ever really had any original inspirations.

At first I wanted to be a SMN/RDM, and now my SMN is level 2, go figure.

I had a few people who motivated me to level faster, I guess.

Yarr: "If SS gets 75 before I do I'm going to quit."

Stuff like that. haha

And I guess after seeing WAR played as a DD class by Skye, I wanted to level it. before then I had never pt with WAR in XP pt except for on lowbee jobs and most of them either tanked or had sword/shield. so yeah
