Just wondering how you guys felt about the races and the people behind them. I'm a taru, when I think of tarutaru I think of free-spirited and fun, almost childlike sprites, who in the same way are prone to tantrums and crying fits when they don't get the things they want. Some might sees tarus differently, but I know quite a few who embody this same type of behavior

Good question Jimbean, hmm, I do not think there is any concrete answer but here is my opinion. I am a Hume male character, basically, only reason I chose Hume was because I wanted it to kind of reflect how I would I look like if I lived as a Knight(I'm a Paladin) during Medieval times. The name "Achillies" is something I grabbed from Greek Mythology since I have studied extensively about the subject. People are who they are. I respect everyone even if they were not to give it back to me. That is what I hope my character presents to people in Vana'diel, virtue. Before in my earliest trials in Vana'diel, if I were to see a Galka, I would think he was 6 foot+ male, about the size of a college or NFL lineman. And for Mithra, I guess the curves and slim feature attracts the host. Elvaans and tarus, the truth, no clue. To sum it up, we have our own ideals and characteristics that distinguishes each other and its good to have :) I do not assume the personality of an individual behind the character because there is no need. Welcome and respect them for who they are :D

Actually yea i picked a taru, because strangely it reminded me of myself. I'm very much a kid at heart. I'd rather be joking around and having fun then taking things seriously. However when i feel like i'm a total pruid too lol

lol for a second i was about to post about irl race affecting your personality.

in game, i think its a mixture of your personality thats determines what race and job you pick. i think your job is more determined by personality than race. for example, most whms i know are very helpful. most plds i know tend to be bossy. as for the race i think that represents if youre a perfectionist, if you like a challenge, or youre own ingame fashion. someone who picks a galka whm ive noticed is just as willing to help as a taru galka, but galka whm is more of a challenge due to lower MP earlier on. a lot of galka PLD picked galka because theyd be the best HP and VIT wise. plus it looks like a real "tank" being big. but 90% of pld regardless of race are bossy and feel the "need" to lead.

just my opinion, i could be wrong lol

Xiona picked Taru because his irl appendeges are small.

People tend to be bias in game just like irl. For example, if your smartass as a Taru, your viewed as witty... but if your a smartass as an Elvaan your just a jackass lol. Female characters get all the love to... just like irl hoho

Hmm that's an interesting point too, do your jobs reflect you personality? well, every other job i've lvled with the exception of smn i did so for the benefit of my ls, even whm astoundingly I started because the group of friends irl who got me into the game needed a whm for the ls they had, thus my fate was sort of pre-ordained. I don't know what smn says about my personality, that in a way I'm indepedent and can fend for myself, but really I couldn't do it w/o the help of large mystical beasts?

If all races were the same in terms of stat increases, this would be a very interesting thing to study. haha. Even with the stat system the way that it is, it's still kinda cool to think about.

I chose Hume 'cause I basically wanted a jack of all trades race. I then chose the short brown hair, 'cause that's what I have IRL. I'm just too boring :P

I've always wanted to try to be a helpful job and be a source of humor, so the light-hearted Tarutaru was natural. I didn't want my presence in game to be all that overbearing.

I'm a statwhore too, and nobody suspects the Tarutaru.

i'm very taruish irl i think. i also think that the people who play tarus tend to be more silly and lighthearted, and also get their feelings hurt easily. over dramatic maybe... and attention whores, but get it by being funny and witty instead of prancing around, and showing off their pixels and cybering.
most galka seem to be very quite.
most mithra want to talk about sex all the time.
most humes are powergamers.
most elvaan are jerks/perverts.
just very broad general observations. of course there are many exceptions.
i originally made a mithra, but deleted her after a few minutes of running around... because it felt weird to be so tall.. and naked.

what if you have 2 characters??....i have a bst taru and a hume red mage..........(started w/hume first)

Author:  Centhea [ Wed Nov 16, 2005 7:29 am ]
Post subject:

I picked hume because I didn't really like the way the other races looked when I first started the game. Since I ended up a red mage, it worked out well, because the balanced stats work nicely with the balanced job.

And yeah I think that ppl in general treat different races differently. Interesting no one has touched on the Manthra issue yet. I know other women who have Galka characters to avoid getting hit on.

As for jobs...I've said for a long time that different jobs attract different personalities. The one that usually makes ppl mad when I say it is that DRKs are suicidal (Last Resort, Souleater, Vorpal Blade).

And what about the interplay of race and job...I think Taru BLMs have a distinct set of personality traits in common and I think of them differently than say a hume BLM or mithra BLM. For a long while I found the vast majority of my friends in the game were BLMs, especially male taru BLMs....hmmmmm.

Nope.

I picked Elvaan Tall because I planned on being a leader and raid leader from the get go. In DAoC I was leading raids all the time. I was always dressed in bright colours because the race i picked in DAoC wasnt super tall and was harder to pick out of a crowed. I picked Elvaan because I wanted people to be able to pick me out of a large crowed if I was hosting anything like I did in DAoC.

Although the elvaan does match my personallity really well. Cocky and overconfident.

This was my first mmorpg, I had no clue what to expect when I made my character. I'm kind of a freak and I tend to make my characters, in all video games, look as much like myself as possible. I'm not half cat irl, but the character model I chose had the same kind of hair, big eyes and roundish face that I have. I also thought mithra would be the most versatile race to try out.

I noticed that there are a lot of mithra cyber hoes, I don't think I fall under this category. I occasional will joke about it, but anyone who actually knows me, knows that is not my nature.

Yeah and the creepy thing is...most of them are guys irl pretending to be girls for that special treatment. I know Iolanthe's a girl b/c i've heard her talk on ts XD

Back on topic, I chose a hume male that looked as close to me irl as possible. My friend (who was originally Ephit) looks almost identical to the character model he chose haha. I feel strange playing it still.

I agree with jobs you play affecting your personality. As PLD I was so passionate about being PLD that I would role play as the one who protects people, and tried to always stay focused and watch out for everyone. I wasn't really bossy. People mostly liked me b/c I was almost always friendly and happy. I really loved playing that job. I do notice alot of PLDs have that bossy attitude and want to be the leader..and they whine alot (mostly b/c if we aren't tanking we are pretty useless). People in my LS joke about leveling their PLD to 75 so we can have one that doesn't whine all the time haha.

Yea, Race = Personality, Job = Attitude

I chose Elvaan due to how I percieved Elves from fantasy books and movies. They are elegant, agile, with a magical aura around them. They were kind and fun, but knew courtesy and responsibility well.

Imagine my surprise when I found out they were the pompus bigots of the Vanadiel world -_-

I started in Bastok because I prefered have a President over a king and I also like the description of it being a "technologically advancing civilization." They forgot to mention "dust bowl" on top of that as well. But I still love Bastok, partially due to the first time I went to Sandy, the NPCs acted so rude that it truely made me not like it at all.

As for jobs, I've always been more like a solo person. I began w/ Rdm because I enjoyed the versatility of play. Back then, I would melee, heal, nuke, and Debuff w/o problem in Exp parties. Hell, I even soloed my Rank 5 quest at lvl 40 (got one person to kirr the NMs in Beadeax though.) The most hilarious thing is, I quit Rdm at 41, seeing that I would become just a refresh whore for others.

Then I picked up Rng, never really seeing one before and fell in love with it (this was 2 years ago, before the "Shitty Rng Influx.") I could solo so many things just out of sheer damage that I loved it to death. It wasn't about the party invites or BCNMs, it was about soloing. Figuring out how to drop a mob before it came over an ate you. Now THAT was a Rng. Eventually, after lvling asorted jobs, lvling Rng to 75, so forth and so on, SE finally came out with the Ranged Update Patch, thanks to all the wonderful people who joined in on the "Great Rng Influx." Now this did not "nerf" Rng, just made it more skillful to play which I love. Only problem is, it does dampen down on their soloing ability >.< So, keeping my Rng alive still, I lvled Nin and love it as well for its soloing capability.

Over all, I guess I'm a kind, fun loving personality w/ a sense of responsibility and manners, but I have a kind of Lone Wolf complex w/ a bit of cockiness on the side.

Edit: Sweet jesus, I just saw how long this post was O.o

I wanna see what you'd look like if you picked a Tarutaru. lol, if you were able to transfer the hairstyle from your Elvaan to Tarutaru that'd be sweet. XD

Anyways, I think I kinda fit the whole image to race thing with Kaze, though my friends see me more as an Elvaan vs. what my Tarutaru looks like in game. lol, I like Kaze better than the Elvaan Warrior (Ifrit Server) I had when I first started, or the Hume Red Mage (Ragnarok Server) that I had even later. For me Tarutaru seem faster than the other races, and they're also kinda underfoot half the time; I'm kinda the same irl, but I'm usually trying to put myself in the foreground or background of things. lol

I don't know if I'd say it reflects my personality. I chose Hume because I wasn't certain what job(s) I was going to level. Since they are (as Ridere put it) a "jack of all trades", I figured that would be my best bet in the long run. Since then I've leveled several jobs and just recently achieved 75 with my MNK... now I'm considering BRD. What can I say, heh? \:D/

ffxi was my first mmorpg or w/e so I just picked hume without thinking much about it 'cause that would be the most like me.. even though Arrowyn looks nothing like me oh well. I wish I was a taru though.

As for job I did samurai 'cause I liked the look of the gtks and at the time there was hardly any. If I could go back and change what I chose I'd prob. choose BLM.. dunno what that means about my personality.

I really don't think this has to do with personality at all. Maybe people want to be something they can't be irl or the opposite of them irl. oohh whaatt noowww
