ok, so i've played this game for a very long time, and wanted to start all the way over from scratch (except for things i cant undo). What job do you all think i should play? i've played as a melee character for the longest of times, and i think its time to change things up.

1.) what job should i start?
2.) what nation should i go to?
3.) can anyone loan me some cash :P

Well since you've already done melee, you can get a foot in the door with magic by going Bard or Red Mage. . . or you could wait till Blue Mage comes in, and start exp whoring that to 75 before anyone else can. o_o Either way, I think these jobs would be the best bet considering they have the ability to melee (but towards the general public it's not really something that people will like) and they also have that feel of being a magic user, while still being able to do some damage.

Take up Brd or Rdm if u don't want to go thru the frustration of seeking for hrs.. but you will not get the satisfaction of 2k damage or holding hate against 2k MB...

Brd and Rdm are one of those jobs where u knew u did great, when the melee start bragging how much damage they did and how they "save ur PT" from the 3 links... ;)

A quote from Gitarooman: "Bards are like a PT technician... they just stand around and oil the parts and make things go smooth"

Rdm is a bit better with soloability later on so u get another sense of achievement.. but brd.. well.. we're great duo partner :) but.. yeah... there's not many climax in a brd's career ; ;

SMN has changed A LOT, because of CoP and the RNG nerf, a lot of folks are jumping on the job bandwagon.. it's not hard at all to exp smn from 1-75 believe it or not.. just look at ppl like dankaru, aumann, skeeter etc etc all those cats were non existant as smns and now in their 60s-70s

1) BRD
2) Windy
3) i'll take some too

Live my dream :3 if I had to start over, that's the route i would go. My reasoning: Windy has a good story for rank missions and BRD is a useful job that gets to 75 fast...and it's cheap compared to others so you won't need any money \:D/

1)
~I'd have to say BRD for a few reasons. Easy to find a party... you could probably have 75 easily before blue mage comes out if you wanted to.. and its also cheap so you really wouldnt need to borrow much. Only reason i dont like it is how much gear you have to have on you.
~SMN has like no fun factor to it when your leveling it.. but when your in your 70's is when its nice because you can just have smn burn parties or even solo if you wanted.
2)
~I'd have to say windy cuz I personally liked the story line when i went through it. But the aru's at the end of every sentance will drive you fuckin crazy :o
3)
As for money... money really isnt much of an issue for brd and for smn it isnt horrible because at 75 almost all your gear is /ex.

BRD is boring as hell, sorry. at least with a melee youre trying to out damage yourself and others.

WHM xping is ok seeing how you need to manage mp as well as keep ppl alive (especially now with the shitty ninjas up and coming you learn exactly how to judge how much hate you have according to how much the
tank has and what spells will do what enmity wise)

RDM is the "small task job" you dont see anything big except enfeebling and refresh. nuking is a waste of MP (lv blm and then tell me your nukes are good on rdm). meleeing not only gives the mob extra TP but is a total waste of your time. your 200dmg total over the course of a fight is the dmg that a melee does in one attack cycle. plus you miss out on MP from resting and it stops you from using staves.

BLM is fun after 40's, but sucks at the same time. lv it and youll see what im saying haha.

it really just comes down to what you wanna do end game. then once you decide that pick a job that best suits those roles and stick with the retardation of xping.

rdm/nin can have a lot of fun soloing things at higher lvls, and there's always a use for you in any situation, provided you have all the appropriate subs lvled.. I think I may be taking rdm to 75 next...

What I'm doing now is lvling bst, blm, brd, rdm, nin, war, mnk, and thf as subs and then hopefully i'll have a better idea of which i want to take up next.

currently: 42brd, 38blm, 25nin, 20war, 10mnk, 10thf, 1bst, 1rdm. The jobs that are leading so far in fun factor and quick invites are nin, and war (though I do like to put together my own pts) and also you've been down both of these roads haven't you?

but yeh, if you can't decide i would sugegst lvling a bunch of jobs you never tried ro always wanted to or you think you would be good/useful as and see which ones sticka nd don't.. that's the best advice i can give.

Having a 75 BST really states something about your character. Leveling BST is not nearly as easy as some people who have never done it go on.

Ive seen talisin struggle with runefury to level up. Ive seen them camp for hours and hours getting ASS xp because thats all you can get with BST.

Someone who has leveled BST also knows a lot more about the AI and how it works. People who apply to CKD with BST at 75 (with other jobs lol) always get a bonus point in my head for dedication to a job.
