Well, I just got back from vacation a couple hours ago and when I got home I tried logging on to my FFXI character. Well, the odd thing is that I was getting the message "Incorrect PlayOnline ID or password." I called up one of my friends who plays FFXI and he mentioned that he saw my character online, naked, buying a world pass when I was out of town. OK, great. So I called up SE and gave them all my info, credit card, registration code, etc. but unfortunately my birthdate and street adress (zip code, state and city were correct) were incorrect. There are only two possible birthdates I could've entered, and neither of them worked and I'm positive that I would've only entered my home adress. This isn't the first time I've called SE and given them my adress/birthdate etc., so I don't really know what happened. So, I've assumed the worst and I guess that somebody logged into my account and raped it and changed my password. I don't know how this could've happened considering that the only third party program I've used is the windower and I've never given my account info to anyone other than a few close real life friends who would not have done this. Well, since my birthdate and adress were wrong and there's no way in hell for me to find out what they're supposed to be they won't reset my password. I might try calling them again, but chances are this is the end of Hale. At least my IDs are already cancelled.

Why would your bithday be different? I know when I signed up for playonline I said I was a day older than I actually was so I could play on Oct.29 when I was 17 as opposed to Oct.30 when I'd be 18 (nerd alert), but if it wasn't that then what else could it be?

OMGOMGOMG I just tried logging in and I was able to with my old password, the one that I have as automatically saved. This is some weird shit; would someone who took my account have changed my password back to what it was originally? Lol, it was adorable how my friend was spamming my account with messages asking whoever was using my account to give it back to me. Anyways, I changed my password as soon as I logged on but unfortunately I can't log into my character because of the maintenance. I'm crossing my fingers though that my stuff will still be there. Yipes! What if they deleted my character? I still don't understand what has happened but I'll keep posting as I find out more.

Edit: Also, thank you all for your sympathy and generosity. Depending on what I find when I log back on I may or may not take one of you guys up on your offers.

Well, I just logged on. All I have left on my character is worthless shit: rare/ex stuff like AF, fishing bait, etc. All of my gil and remotely valuable items were taken. The item I'm saddest to lose was my Vermillion's cloak given to me and signed by Llydia. ;_; Ew, they even took all my gil from my mules...

Someone did this to Arrowyn a while back. It really sucks. Did anyone else have access to your account? Did you D/L windower from the actual archbell site? You can get keyloggers or password stealing spyware from using a altered windower or other 3rd party software.

i've seen this happen to 3 friends before actually. though, the most recent one, we found out who it was by the names on the AH list...and i guess a lot of people confronted him. he got scared and actually gave a lot of the stuff back

Wow, that does suck. But how the hell are they doing it? I've heard of this on many different servers, but all the people swear they didn't give out their passwords. Anyone have any clues so that we can all safeguard ourselves in the future?
