holy shit Quote: RMT Countermeasures
Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue. Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner. Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels. Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th. As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience. We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy. (02/09/2006) http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/inform ... 60209.html That's why IGE has been running out of gil lately hahaha. They actually did something finally wow, lol. |

I hope they added better tracking with gil. I know that in DAoC they had tools that would monitor EVERY account's "Gil". If someone spiked from say like 3-4 plat (say like 10-20 mil in FFXI) to 20 plat, a flag would go off and a CSR would double check that no duping or RTM was going on. They also had tools to see exactly how much money was on each server total and so on. It was a handy little backend tool. I saw people who found bugs and made like 20 plat in a matter of 2 days (something thats like impossible normally, most players were lucky to see more than 5 plat ever) because they found that some monsters were droping their entire loot table (high level loot thats de-syth(so to say) and used for crafting) with some expensive items. It was pretty crazy. Sure enough the Devs found out about the bug and they were able to track all the people who exploited it and deleted the money from their inventory. I had a friend who had the money deleted and he got a huge warning about exploiting. |

I like how SE worded this, like they had no idea what gilselling was until very recently. Honestly though, if this was done back in early january, I haven't seen any effects on our server. The problem with tracking gil is that there's so many ways to transact in FF. And it'd be hard to judge what was just normal trading of gil for private purposes and what was something against the TOA. Its not too difficult to obtain a wealth in ffxi and trade it off to someone else. Say for instance Severus quit and gave me all his gil. My gil would jump from 100k to 23091847314930247304973k in one transaction, which in that system you described would flag us as doing something questionable. I've come to find SE is much too lazy to do research on things that aren't sure fire concerns. They'd probably just see "North American account" and jail me anyways. |

I've noticed alot of high-end equipment going down by millions so i would say ya it is working for eg Okotes the RMT seller was Unish ive been watching these for awhile waiting till i could buy a pair for a normal price and for the past two weeks ive noticed Unish hasn't sold a pair, so I believe they were one of the accounts deleated. but furthermore looks like unish was replaced by godsgaming. Now the price is 5-6 Million down 2 million. Unfortunately the problem is with equip like the Kraken Club and Theif's Knife there asking price will never go down because you'll never see that peice of equip on the AH so basically price goes by word of mouth and last rumored sold price. So all in all I think it has helped but you'll never put the RMT's down and out for good. |

Honestly though, if this was done back in early january, I haven't seen any effects on our server. I noticed some changes. Hauby has dropped to currently 7mill(yesterday) from 10-12mil that it was 3 weeks ago. Scorp harness is currently 12-13mill, it was 15mill last week, we'll have to wait and see to see how far that drops. I'm sure there are other items dropping, but I only noticed those two since I check their prices daily. |

I've definitely seen some effects. Some high priced items have been dropping rapidly because no one would buy them and they kept getting sent back to the auctioner. I've been watching behemoth hides in particular since I need them to get some equip crafted. In early january they were up to 25mil....which is insane...because people were actually buying them at that price *coughgilbuyerscough* But then, 5-10 of them were stockpiling on the AH and no one was buying them...people started undercutting and maybe 1 or 2 would get bought. The rest were sent back to the seller who lost that nice fee for listing it. This happened over and over and over and now hides are down just under 10mil and still dropping. The same thing has been happening with other items...people can't buy gil because IGE is selling out really rapidly, so no one can pay the outrageous AH prices on these items...they get sent back to the seller who lost the fee for listing it. Now we see even more bazaars in Batallia than before...because no one can get the high priced items sold. If you check those bazaars every day you can see the prices just keep going down and down. and the items that aren't going down...are still there because no one will buy them. damn i typed a lot there |

i was looking on IGE and noticed there is not much gil for sale at all ( on ifrit) and if there was some available for other servers it was at a very expensive rate.... victory |

Seriously... nothing was done. The actual gil sellers that camp the NM's are all still around. If anything/anyone was deleted it was RMT mules that actually hold the gil/items. Pens and crew are still at O-Kote. Maybe Unish did get deleted, but what did that do? Gil sellers still control that market. Excuisite and crew are still at Padfoot, Crylily at Overlord, Brush at Alky, Baitosai at Cassie...... gil sellers still control the market. Yea maybe they lost some possible money, but I don't think enough was done. |

700 accounts isn't a lot when you look at it from that being from all of the worlds. It seriously can't be that hard to tell which accounts are RMT, the GMs aren't that stupid. |

Guys, the deleted accounts may not have done tOO much, but keep in mind they apparently put in new tools to better track gil sellers. IMO they should take out the gil buyers first. Figure out whos getting gil from these accounts and ban or suspend them all. |
