Check out
Supreme Commander. (Full Trailer on Gamespot)
I'd post screenshots but really, they just don't do it justice. Watch that trailer.
Seriously, this game looks and sounds unbelievable. The map in the trailer is
1/16th of the size of the game's largest maps. You can zoom out all the way, on the fly, too by just scrolling the mouse wheel. The battlefields look like they were taken straight out of some kind of movie.
Due to the sheer size of everything you can expect to be fighting on literally several fronts at once, with hundreds upon hundreds fighting at each. The game supports giving coordinated orders to separate armies, allowing you to coordinate attacks on separate places at once or the same location from different angles at once. To put it how the developers put it, other RTS games are about skirmishes and battles, this game is about
war.
And hell, the thing has
multi-monitor support, complete 3D views of separate places on both monitors, that's freaking awesome. Multiplayer allows cooperative play so you can have multiple people help command the same army.
Going to have to wait til 2007 though, damn shame. It's been a long time since the RTS genre started to pump out something that really got me excited.
