Gonna have to go with 3 though since I have 5 on anthology but last I checked it crashes when I try to save my game, but I have a different ps2 now so maybe it'll work.

Do 3, you've never seen it before. Plus 5 now looks like crap (haHA) and the story in 5 is kinda lame imo.

I prefer the graphics of FF5 to most games out today.

For the pre-PSX FFs odd numbered games are typically more focused on unique gameplay rather than characterization. Whil the even games have more depth to the story. III's story is nothing impressive. Neither's is V. lol

V's story is better than VIII.

I still think VI had the best story, or rather I liked how many stories there were and how they all tied in. I always liked the way VII kept you guessing at what was really going on.

Okay. I agree but there is a huge difference from the Pre-PSX and the Post-PSX games in terms of development.

I couldn't handle having 15 characters in ff6, I gotta play that again some time.

Isn't that when square-soft became square-enix?

And I never noticed, but I guess you're right. IV's gameplay was kinda lame, with people dying and switching in/out all the time, and from what I played of II, it was kinda like that with less specified "jobs".

Do you think they'll put the PSX games onto DS or GBA or just stop while they're ahead?

Sony owns the distrubution rights to FFVII, so you won't see it on anything but a Sony console. I think once FFVI is released, the re-releases will be done for a good while.

Not sure if the DS could handle the psx FFs. FFVII would need an entire graphics overhaul anyways, because the polygons are just too rough for today's audience.

Rather, I could see SE re-releasing Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana for the GBA some time in 2007.

I'm a little ways into world 2 now. My party is:

Galuf - Ninja w/image (makes a good tank in boss battles)
Bartz - Ranger w/counter (going to max out ranger for x-fight)
Lenna - BlueMage w/summon (good mix of offensive, defensive, and healing magic)
Faris - RedMage w/two-handed swd (big damage dealer + backup heal)

That sounds awesome. And FF3 is kinda polygonal, I don't see why psx couldn't be run on the DS since its *kinda the same as N64, and Mario 64 runs fine w/ added content and graphics slightly updated.

*key word

They could probably shrink ff7 and 8 down but 9 seems way too pretty and detailed. I wonder how the FMVs would look though. FF3's opening fmv was sick.

I dont think they would have the room on the cart to add FMVs. The reason Square chose to use PSX over N64 was because they wanted to include FMVs and they needed the CD format for that.

I know. Thats why nintendo lost FF series. FF3 has a nice FMV though, but I dunno how many the DS could hold along with the rest of the game.

Maybe have some sort of GBA slot memory card and multiple ds cards.

I'm not understanding the ability system. I'm playing the anthology version on playstation. Even as a knight I can't use all knight abilities, I get Guard and I get a choice of one other ability I set such as Cover. If I want abilities from another job I have to sacrifice cover and make my Knight useless. Is this really how it is or am I missing something?

as far as i can tell, you can only use two abilities. one is the job that you're on, and the other is whatever you want. freelancer can use two selected abilities though

also some jobs have inherent abilities that you don't have to equip, as long as it's your current job. For example, monks learn counter, but they don't have to equip it for it to work. Same with Blue Mage and Learning, and I think I've seen my knight Cover another character without having the ability equipped.

I like the fact that V rewards you for leveling all the jobs, but III kinda penalizes you for it.

possible spoilers

did you guys try beating Omega yet? I'm lvl 43ish and he owned me hard. I'm going to bypass him for now and come back later.
