might pick this up today,

Yggdra Union features a busy but attractive presentation. In addition to the colorful anime graphics and nicely animated combat sequences, there are some catchy musical melodies and convincing digitized sounds of combat. You see a dozen units fighting onscreen in a given skirmish, but this convincingly creates the sense that whole armies are fighting head-on. The presentation turns out to be telling about the entire game: There's a lot going on in Yggdra Union, and it all seems interesting but also somewhat dense and intimidating. Once you get past the learning curve and settle into the pacing of the game, you'll find in Yggdra Union another good reason to keep your Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS juiced up for many days to come.

Nice. Sounds like a fire emblem on a larger scale.

Is that pronounced "yig-dra"?

After looking at the screenshots, I think I'll be picking it up when I can.

It was used in Dragon Quest VIII also. Yggdrasil Leaf and Yggdrasil Dew were consumables. I never knew wtf Yggdrasil was. I thought it was a silly word SE made up. I should have known better!

Yggdrasill is in the Tales series, or at least Symphonia and Phantasia since I haven't had time for the others. Not items though.

Is this going to be a game we're going to be lucky to find on eBay? :(

Yggdrasil's the life tree in norse myths, the same place every other fantasy based thing comes from. Odin's spear came from it, Nidhogg gnawed on the roots (and shredded dead souls by a river in hell), and some crazy squirrel ran up and down it sowing trouble between Nid and this eagle up top.

Meanwhile this game's release is a new mystery for the ages.

I found this at EB today for $30 :D They had no used copies though, and the box was on the ground in a pile of randoms so I almost missed it.

It's pretty good so far, like a cross between Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. When you send out your guys and have them engage an enemy unit the battle takes place automatically with each unit having a certain number of guys. They fight according to their morale, the higher the better. Your unit can suffer a defeat and still fight again as long as their morale doesn't hit zero. You can make your unit fight aggressively which makes them attack stronger and fight beyond their abilities but drains this power gauge. You can refill the gauge by fighting passively, which lowers your power. This all takes place in real-time and you can change battle stance on the fly. If your unit leader has a weapon affinity with the card you chose as your turn card then he'll be the Unit Ace for the turn and he can perform a special Skill in battle by holding A or B depending on the skill type, and that drains the little power gauge too.

The screen is busy as hell but it's less complicated than it seems.
