I got this little LCD HD tv and all my games look like shit on it (except FF12). Is PS2 just not compatible with the fancy TVs since it came out 7+ years ago, or are there new wires I can buy to make a hookup that won't make all my games look severely pixelated? I'm just hooking the ps2 directly to the TV via the RF switch. This tv has the yellow/white/red, and I have the old yellow/white/red wires that came with my original ps2 but I can't get it to show me the game that way. This also has the Y/Pb/Pr, HDMI, S-video, and the ability to hook the computer into it.

DVD movies look great, TV is so-so. If I can buy some wires to make games look nice I'll keep it, if not I'm going back to the big tube tv because the only advantage this'd really have is the ability to watch movies with my stereo headphones.

Any help is appreciated, I have had the same old tv for 12 or 13 years and I don't really know about this newschool crap.

If it makes a difference, I have the old boxy model PS2, not the slim one.

DL there is Y/Pb/Pr/ cable made for those ps2 as well so try that out but it will not be like ps3 have with HD HDMI.

Yeah get the component cables so you can output 480p (progressive scan). That should look better. They are the red, green, and blue video.

also, most games for ps2 are designed for 4:3 aspect ratio, so when you plug it into a 16:9 tube its going to stretch. there might be a zoom setting on your TV which will take the source and keep it 4:3 instead of stretching it. Other than that, component cables are the way to go. Cool thing is the cables from the ps2 will work on the ps3 incase you want to upgrade.

Yeah if you try and play them fullscreen you'll get a lot of ugly stretch. I ended up just living with pillarboxing for last gen games. It doesn't bother me that much.

Yeah I prefer the boxes on the sides and a better quality picture, over the stretched image.

Yeah this has different picture modes. I tried it mainly with games that have a built in 16:9 4:3 choice of ratios, and tried with all the pic size settings, and all the games still look like crap (besides FF12). Will get the component cables this weekend and give it a try. o.o)b

It's like buying a sexy new red dress for your grandma. It'll look okay, but you should trade in your grandma for some young hot thing (ps3).

I'm angry my PS3 isn't backwards compatable with PS1/PS2 games. I didn't know the 40GB won't do it at all. 1/3 of the reason I wanted a PS3 was to replay my PS games upconverted on my TV. I'd take it back and upgrade to an 80GB if Target would take it back...unfortunately they won't because it's used now....

It can play ps1 games. ALl of them. But absolutely not on the ps2 games. But it doesn't mean its impossible. Techincally speaking the ps2 would be able to handle a software emulation of ps2 games. It would just time and money.

Oh nice I haven't tried PS1 games. I tried PS2 only and just assumed it wouldn't play PS1 because it popped an error message saying my console isn't backwards compatible (or something like that).
