A rumor, but since ms is terrible with rumors this might end up being true. The following is from an upcoming ad from kmart.

With the release of mgs4 and its obvious popularity ( it sold 3 million copies so far) the ps3 has been picking up steam. The ps3 took over japan with ease and oddly enough its been doing really well in Europe *often outselling the 360* in fact as of today according to ms the ps3 is only 750k units away from beating ms in the European markets. Only market ps3 has been having trouble with has been North america.

In any case if ms really does lower its price, this puts both nintendo and sony in the spot technically. The wii hasn't dropped price since it came about and at 249.99 it doesn't seem like like such a hot buy when you have a 20 gig hd ready set for $299. And sony at the lowest price of $399 with mgs 4 is looking pricey..
Anyway lets see how it goes.

I believe this rumor as much as I believed the HDMI and Elite 360 rumors. Probably a good move for Microsoft. I gotta admit MGS4 completely changed my view on the PS3's potential.

the date has changed to july 16 to match the upcoming e for all convention

Ok, the rumor ended up being true. Ms confirmed it today. However theres a trick to it lol.

$299 20 gig model ( limited time only)
to be eventually replaced by
$349 60 gig model

So its just a liquidizing of stocks to replace with the 60 gig model.
Pretty lame.. but 299 is better than 399 ( what i paid.)

I wish I'd have waited. Went and bought an Elite and all I really got out of it was an HDMI cable for my PS3.
