Rosa's prayer recovers mp now.

Battle lag is almost non-existant compared to the GBA version.

I think certain monsters, mainly coeurls and soulflayers, look much better in 2d. Their sprites were bigger and more detailed in the gba game.

The Theme of Love in this version sounds like the Celtic Moon version, it's great.

At weapon and armor shops, when you get to the final checkout screen it actually shows you the stat boosts on the piece besides simple atk/def/eva/etc.

Rydia is so goddamn hot.

Summons look really great. Rydia does a little twirly dance and then the screens go black for a moment before the summon cutscene begins. I only have basic summons at this point such as the Mist Dragon, Ifrit, Shiva, etc. I can't wait for Odin and Bahamut.

I'm past the Tower of Zot. Tellah is gone, the scene was GREAT. I beat Golbez at the dwarf castle and I'm just grinding and farming a bit outside the town.

Actually took a break to finally get around to the Lunar Ruins in the gba version. Trying to finish Kain's trial for omgbackstory but the boss is owning me. haha

At the deaths of the mage babies and Tellah, Cecil's reactions were a little weak compared to those of the other men.

but holy shit

Yang's departure was amazing. This one really gave me the feeling of the departure of Boromir, haha. Yang was the longest serving member of the adventure at that point and Cecil showed it both in the way they animated him and in the way the actor gave voice to the scene. These characters show such emotion on their silly little faces.

I love this game.

Well

I got past the fights in the Giant of Babel and in the cutscene afterwards there was a new story sequence. It was a flashback in which we meet KluYa and his wife Cecilia (kinda guessing, the exact name was "Seshirua" which is Cecila). There's a baby with the woman and a little boy, their son, named Theodore (Teodoru).

Then uhh...
some stuff happens, KluYa dies, the mother dies, and Theodore drops the baby off near Baron, where he is discovered and adopted by the king. Theodore is nowhere to be found.

Flashback ends, we come back to the present where Kain rejoins the team. Back on the lunar whale Kain starts talking and we see another flashback, this one involving Kain and Cecil as kids. It seems like they're meeting for the first time, but they end up almost getting into a fist fight. Rosa walks in and stops them. More squigglytalk ensues.

I'll probably watch it again and try to write it all down so I can ask my ls exactly what every bit of it meant. haha

How much did the import game cost? Also, it works perfectly on your DS or did you have to import a japanese DS for it?

Game itself cost $53 on ebay, was a buy it now so I didn't have to bid and wait. Shipping/insurance would have been $8. Seemed like a good deal considering $53 is the price of a new ps2 game+tax here.

DS can play foreign games so it works just the same as any of my normal games.

The same guy has three on sale atm:

Zeromus was friggin huge. Big Bang looked awesome and the fight was as hard as ever, despite having much higher levels than the last time I played through. Halfway through the fight I realized I had no more phoenix downs with rydia and edge dead. So I had to just keep cecil raising rosa to heal him up enough to survive the next inevitable big bang, which would kill rosa, only to have her raised by cecil again and start it over. Kain jumped. The scenes leading up to Zemus/Zeromus were pretty awesome and the part where the old members of the team send their prayers to Cecil is still goosebump-worthy haha. The scenes directly after the fight were also voiced and we got to see Golbez as a boy before the end of it. The ending played out the same as always, didn't show Kain's face when he took off his helmet. Rosa has a queenly wedding dress on. I've never really liked the ending all that much because Kain just ends up alone and miserable on the mountain.

After the credits, which include the vocal Theme of Love from the trailers, you can save the new game+ data and start again I went back to my save file before the final battle to see if I could enter the Lunar Ruins, but couldn't. It seems in order to access any of the post-zeromus content you have to actually play through it a second time. I haven't given play #2 very much time (omg phantom hourglass) but you do carry over the Decant Abilities you taught or did not teach your characters, and you can obtain them again. I'm hoping the event theater will still be available at the fat chocobo and it'll have the final battle scenes, but I haven't gotten that far in play#2 yet.

Overall it's awesome. yaaaaaay.
Hope it comes out in english with some special packaging/extras.

I envy you for being able to play through an RPG in Japanese. I would kill for that ability.

Yeah luckily I always remembered where I had to go/do etc. It helped to know those uh...weirdo letters they have for the white man (kana?) because I was able to figure out spells, items, and equipment since most of them were actually in engrish instead of actually having japanese words for them. For example Elixirs were called Erikusa, Dry elixirs were called erikusadorai, sleep was suripuru, Holy Lance was hori ransu, and so on and so forth.

Iirc death was called desu.
