frat boys, jocks.. and that class of people like madden alot.. seems to be the group of people who dont like madden are geeks, nerds.. pretty much everyone in that genre.

i happen to not like that game at all. or football.. but then again, i wasnt born in the US, or raised on football, so that could be a reason why.

I like football but I've only owned 2 maddens, '02 and '04. I bought '04 in 2006 for $8 lol. I would have expected higher sales from Final Fantasy 12.

NHL 94 was and always will be the best EA Hockey game ever made. Nothing beats it.

PS2 sold well because more or less it was a console with a cheap DVD player along with it. Same will go for PS3 if and when Blue Ray beats out HD DVD.

Is using a 2 year old article concerning blu ray vs hd dvd supposed to make sense?

You may wanna look a little harder for a recent article on HD DVD vs Blu Ray. September 19th 2005 lol. I hope that article didn't convince you Blu Ray is going to beat out HD DVD. Nobody can know for sure now.

I'll lend a hand. This is an interesting recent article (from today) on HD DVD vs Blu Ray, with a view we don't see too often...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD

Towards the middle is a chart with specs for Blue Ray, HD DVD, DVD ROM and 3x DVD ROM.

Blue Ray and HD DVD are same on one spec. The rest Blue Ray beats out the HD DVD. With pratically double the space, playback and max data transfer rate. Sadly because of idiots, just like in the VHS versus Beta Max war it will come down to marketing instead of which is the better product.

That article was very interesting, especially about when sometimes you don't want massive high quality/resolution. I remember Yarr posting something about news readers having more money spent on make up now because HD-TV picks up all the blemishes that normal missed.

I think the guy misses the point about the internet tho, you can download unlimited content yes, but you will run out of room to store it eventually, thats where high capacity discs that are easy for the consumer to "burn" will win out.

I wasn't around for the Beta Max/VHS war, VHS had already won by the time I knew what a TV was so I am quite interested in how this will pan out.

The NES Hockey games I had were Nintendo Hockey (fat guys, small guys, middle size guys), and Blades of Steel. Blades of Steel ruled just for the fact it had a voice for the start that said "BLADES OF STEEL!" just like its Konami (I think) basketball counterpart Double Dribble. When I heard a voice on my NES, I remember being all OMGZ.

lol I was the same way about voices on games. When SNES game around it was less important, but I always remember the intro to Star Fox and how cool and epic it sounded. Then ofcourse the voices turned into sounds

Wingwing dingdabber.

Yeah that article is pretty nutty. Who knows what's going to happen. I highly doubt both will die out. I'll just take both for now and be happy, just like I do with video game systems. I should have both next month. I'll be sure to watch both often and make my own opinion on which format is better with PQ and sound. That's all I care about lol. I honestly think they both have good and bad movies. Most people's opinions are jaded because they just want to like one more than the other.

I'm guilty of doing that with stuff

Yeah my dad is going to get a 1080p TV to hang on the wall in his bedroom. I think he is going to get a LCD though. I will probably make and install a Media Center PC for him in there and we will hook up a Comcast HD box to it. That way he can record and watch all the HD shit he wants. He is undecided on whether he will go with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. All I know is I get my refund check pretty damn soon direct deposited to my bank account... trying to decide what to do with the money. I could get a HDTV, or I could get a Wii and a PS3 and just leech off my Dad's HDTVs lol.

It all depends on how well the the media sells. Id put my monen on blue ray just because of how many studios support it. However, the general public seems to be more infavor of the HD-DVDs due to the cheap players (400-500) and cheaper media (like 5-10 bucks cheaper than BR).

Biggest problem Blue Ray has right now is a lack of manufacturers for the Blue-ray players. At CES 2007 a whole slew of no name companies signed on to make HD-DVD drives. So really, this war is still very on the fence still. Dispite sony's claims that they already won.

Yeah this shit is going to have to get a fuckload cheaper to be adopted by all the DVD users out there. Right now the majority of people have very little reason to switch to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drives. There are already upconverting DVD drives that will suffice for the time being. Add in the fact that absolutely no Hollywood movie has been shot with a camera that is over 720p in resolution, and you get a technology that isn't even needed quite yet. I was at Sound Advice last night and I couldn't really tell that much of a difference between 1080i and 1080p. Much easier to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 if the source is actually shot in 1080 (which rules out almost everything lol).

Yeah Universal came out with "True Disk" media. One side Blue-Ray the other HD-DVD. Its a great idea, except that these movies are going to be in the 40+ price range. I mean whos going to want to replace a DVD with a True Disk that costs twice the price of a new DVD?

The LG Duel format player weights in at a heavy 1500+ USD. Its more expensive than buying two cheap players. It also doesnt provide support for many very important audio features in HD-DVDs.

It is my understanding that anything shot in 35mm can display something up to 20 million pixels (even though it's analoge and doesn't display pixels). So mastering it as a digital 1920 X 1080 progressive signal isn't difficult. This is off the top of my head...I'll look into it and find detailed threads from AV forums later. I have to get back to work ftl.
