I wouldn't say sidestepping is pointless in Tekken and VF considering both games it's harder for buttonmashers to win than with SC (if a blind kid can win a tourney, its a masher) and DOA. It's merely an added depth to the game, as opposed to not being able to sidestep and wondering why it's not there. To state the obvious, it's just an additional defensive maneuver.

From: IGN interview
IGN: Have you found there are certain games that are easier for you to pick up on?

Brice Mellen: Yeah. Soulcalibur II took me some time. Mortal Kombat didn't take very much. Same with Tekken.

That is the blind gamer in question. Says MK and Tekken did not take very much time. SC2 on the other hand did.

Tekken is a buttonmasher fest with Eddie type characters, so is VF to a degree.

sidestep in tekken is used mostly as a path to different move combinations, less as defense
tekken is the best. street fighter is second.

Sidestepping in Tekken is brutal, if you know how and when to use it. T5DR is pretty good.

I hope it goes to arcade first.

ARCADE FIRST PLEASE!

Learning how to play at an arcade is way more fun. Having to constantly fight people to keep playing is fun.

i don't think it looks that great. I dunno, it's weird i like 3d shit, but only if it's super-realistic, taking a 2d format and changing it to 3d but making it still look cartoony is cheesy imo, should've just made it really intense 2d style

btw i was thinking about this today, i don't really enjoy using controllers for fighting games. like, if it's the only option, sure whatever i'll play it, but i really like using a keyboard or arcade pads better. i was looking around teh internets today to see if there are any arcade pads you can buy for xbox 360, and the only one i found was this http://www.arcadeinabox.com/Scripts/pro ... product=42 for $150. was wondering if anybody knew of any others, possibly less expensive haha.

For arcade sticks for fighting games get the Hori products. From what I have heard they are great for consoles. I was thinking about getting one and buying Virtua Fighter 5. They have them at my local EB for like $65.

I'm probably the only person that loved the DoA series. Whatever the last one was on the regular XBox I could play for days straight. The counter system made the fights might more about anticipation, although it was still really simple (only 3 ways to counter, High, Middle and Low)

I'm not sure if other games could counter like Dead or Alive could, but I really liked that aspect of the game.

That does look fun. I wonder if those super moves are like "finishers" ala Mortal Kombat. The last Street Fighter I played seriously was SF II for the SNES.
