technically you are right kioto. the GTX has 640mb while the GT only has 512mb so technically trying to match them the same while giving one a distinct advantage off the back will make it hard to correctly bench, but be that as it may with the GT running so close to the GT had it been they were of equal settings there is no doubt that the GT would win, with its smaller faster chips, larger bits and more pipelines \:D/

Ive found the GT in Japan
USA
UK/europe
still cant find it in canada? =\ i thought USA was the last place to get stuff

Let's put the best GT vs the best GTX side by side:

GPU: 8800GTX - 8800GT
Interface: PCIe x16 - PCIe 2.0
Core Clock: 650Mhz - 700Mhz
Stream Processors: 128 - 112
Mem. Clock: 2000Mhz - 2000Mhz
Mem Size: 768Mb - 512Mb
Mem. Interface: 384Bit - 256Bit
Mem. Type: GDDR3 - GDDR3
Shader Clock: 1400Mhz - 1500Mhz
ROP#: 24 - 16

Pipeline is a little different nowdays, 128 stream processors which would equal about 32 current pipelines for the 8800GTX versus the 112 stream processors that would equal 28 pipelines that the 8800GT offers. (Pipelines are estimates)

I'm not discarting the GT's performance in any way, i give it props for being cheap and fast, but the GTX is still the daddy (after the ultra of course) and will still perform better, specially for those trying to squeeze avery little ounce of juice out of it. It maybe 5 to 15 FPS slower compared to the GTX and that's what counts, because in the 50-60FPS range is what will define smooth or laggy.
