I've never played a MGS game. It's like the first godfather movie. I just never seem to get around to playing/watching respectively. I think I'll try to find an image of the first game somewhere.

They're selling the mgs collection. You get the first mgs for playstation, then mgs sons of liberty and the excellent mgs snake eater.

I might get a PS3 w/ MGS4 after I finish Ninja Gaiden 2 for 360. Fucking game is difficult and I refuse to turn down the difficulty lol.

I honestly have no idea. However. I do know that during the mission briefings
when you run around as the mark 2, if you touch people with the arm thingy it has you get addition masks

I already fig this part out that if you put those BB boss asleep than to kill them you end up getting mask of their face I think not sure yet but I do know first boss I ended up killing laughing oct and only got carmos mask but not her face.

As for crying wolf I found a place that you can be safe from frogs and boss without getting seen or hurt as you take them out.

And last I already beat this game, You will all love the ending! it was the BEST longest trailer I had ever seen yet.

Prob something to it. However i do find it funny running around as a black girl killing everything in sight.
Just finished it. The ending was really long. FF13 really has something to live up to, this game truly defines what the PS3 is all about.
a game you beat in 3 days with no re-playability? Sounds about right, with what everyone else has said about all the previous ps3 games.

It does have re-playability if you like a challenge and go for the Big Boss Emblem. Well it would be a challenge for me because I tend to be trigger happy with these games, that no kill is going to be tough. :(

I can't stop playing Mario Kart for Wii. After that I'll play Ninja Gaiden 2, then I'll play this. Never played an MGS game before, but I hear this is the greatest looking game for the PS3 (and supposedly any other console) and it's very fun to play. I need to see if it lives up to the hype. I don't have my fingers crossed and of course I'm in no rush. If it really only takes a couple days to beat I'll just rent it.

What Remey said about the emblems. The replay value is vast, not to mention metal gear online.

ok here my re-play on MGS4 challenge is to use non-leathal killing weapons to take down enemys such as darts to stun weapons.

Now that I think about it there are place that you have to use leathal weapons to get thru.

I just beat it today. and I am pretty sure using lethal force on Gekkos and other Unmanned Recon enemies doesn't count as a kill ( can't lethally kill frogs though) so you should be fine
The hardest part would prolly be the part on Drebin's APC since there are humans and gekkos mixed together).

As for my thoughts ( watch out real real spoilers ahead).I thought the ending, while good and wrapping everything up nicely enough, was too long. Big Boss's soliloquy was particularly onerous to sit through.

I really enjoyed how exciting the game was from pretty much the second you step on shadow moses island till the final brawl with liquid. I mean the flashback to dodging the gekko outside otakon's office, to the fight with vamp to piloting the mother fucking Rex it was just pure unadultered awesome. And after Escaping with rex I said to myself "man, they could end the game right there and I'd be happy." But, no, you get the awesomeness which is Pyscho Mantis(screaming Mantis was alright too I guess), and the culminating battle with liquid was truly everything a final battle should have been.
if you've never played mgs, and your picking mgs 4 to play. Stop right there. Either buy the collection for ps2 or just don't play it at all kluya. And with your attention span kluya. You probably wouldn't last mgs 1's first cut scene

Is there a book or spark notes for 1-3? I don't feel like playing through a PS1 game just to understand all the inside jokes in MGS4.

Deejay Screw attack's metal gear retrospectives was a good recap of all the games up until now. They provide most of the salient points of the plots, in addition to some history on the games in the real world.

I never played MGS 3 for example but because I watched the retrospective I was familiarized enough to understand the many references to characters like Eva and Para-Medic as well stuff like Big Boss killing The Boss.

to be fair the retrospective in itself is quite long and you might not like it if you've never played any Metal gear games at all, but in terms of a visual primer( that is you don't have to read) its one of the most readily available and comprehensive.

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/6748.html that should be the link to it if not I'm sure you can google and come up with it.

For a more textual experience try http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.off ... Id=3168084 I didn't read it but it seems to be written to lay out everything chronologically rather than by game which might be useful.

All told though you're still not gonna get some of the jokes for example there's parts of the game that directly mirror previous games either via gameplay or just actions and such, but overall it should at least prep you to follow the story along and enjoy the action. You might want to watch the retrospective again AFTER you beat MGs4 and then you'll probably catch yourself saying "OH thats why he did that"

Thanks Vurin, my sister got a PS3 and I picked up the game a could days ago. I'm about an hour and a half in, just messed around with weapons and crap right after you meet Drebin.

This game is really really really polished. And I'm not talking about lip-gloss shiny graphics polished, just the overall experience. From the cool clicky sounds to all the guns, this seems like it'll be fun.
