someone who used to be in my ls was in the LOTR:O beta and said it was terrible. i personally haven't really looked into it, though.

At the time, probably. EQ and DAoC were quite good but FFXI was highly underrated in what it got right.

i feel like, despite the things needing fixing, ffxi got so many things right that i wouldn't be interested playing anything except a game that is an improvement built upon the foundation ffxi made. if anything positive from ffxi is left out of said game, it would be a shame.

I probably wouldn't have played FFXI so much if it wasn't for the fact that it actually got the FF experience in an MMO. Did they have to sacrifice some aspects to do that? Yeah, but the feeling was undeniably there. Plus the character, armor and world design was just on a whole different level. If you want to look at the epitome of "cool items" when I left EQ (Epics) they looked like absolute shit (not because they were older and less detailed, but because the design just wasn't as inspired).

When I see pictures of other MMOs it reminds me how great the equipment in FFXI looks. The artifact sets (not to mention AF2, jse, and abjuration sets) look spectacular next to the hodgepodge crap in other games.

I completely agree with you.

The only reason I stopped playing FFXI was because of having to wait 4+ hours for a party when other people got parties even though they were the same job and basically same equipment.

The reason I started playing WoW is because some of my friends are playing it and wanted me to try it. I can't say I enjoy it more, but its less stressful for parties and equipment and such.

Actually they need to erase WoW from existence and THEN they've got it all locked up. Every MMO is just bleeding customers besides WoW for various reasons
