While Tanaka (the only remaining member of the three) re-illustrated the characters for Episode II, he has since distanced himself from the project.

It was sad to see Mitsuda go, but Yuki Kajiura did okay with Episode 2 music, and Episode 3 should be fine again.
Characters design for episode 2 kinda sucked (especially for Kos-mos imo), but a few character were much better than in 1. Episode 3's character design is different again, but I think everyone look good.
Takahashi still work on the story, so, nothing to complain here. Tanaka's departure on the other hand sucked. She did an awesome job in XG and Episode1, and I think you can notice that in Episode 2. However, since she wasn't the only one to work on the story, the main plot element are still left intact.
I'm not saying those change didn't piss me off when I heard that about Episode 2, but I eventually got over it
