I always named the characters after friends also lol. My name on FFIV was usually Kain sometimes Cecil, and on FFVI it was Shadow or sometimes Locke...I always changed it. It does get confusing lol. Especially if you take a short break from your saved game, and start playing it again. During the dialogue I have no idea who is saying what.

For some reason I don't change names anymore.

I dont change names because it got way to hard to talk about FF games with other people. FFVII I changed the name at first then started over with normal names and havent changed names around since.

But yea, I used to rename characters all the time. Shining Force and Secret of Mana I never knew that characters real names. Do they even have real names in Secret of Mana? I should probably wiki that. Haha.

FF6 has too many characters for me. There is absolutely no need for 16 playable characters to be available at the same time. Shitload of characters makes sense in a game like Suikoden, where they each serve a specific purpose in your castle/army, but in something like FF where you can have a 4-man pt of useless schmucks or a 4-man pt of wrecking machines, it's pointless. The only time you have a shitty party in FF4 is when you're going up mount ordeals. It's impossible to keep the kids alive. I run from almost every fight in that zone.

Well...there is a few scenarios in FFVI that make use of all characters. Phoenix Cave, Kefka's tower, and the secret dungeon cave (in advance).

as nerdy as it sounds. I tend to name people in my rpgs after people i associate them with.

For example lol Im playing final fantasy 9 again on a ps1 emulator on my pc. and I named vivi after me. He kinda clumsy and he's a black mage so it was obvious to name after me. I named Zadane after talisin and princess garnet. I found it amusing to name her yarr lol. I just have that habit.

Yeah I know what you mean. I see the nice CGI characters next to the ingame character and I cry a little inside knowing 3-4 years down the road im probably going to be buying this game again for PS3 or Wii2.

Also, if you have the GBA cart for FFIV loaded in your DS when you start your game, you supposedly get some sort of bonus.

Really good looking way better than old one and I am going to get it.

I don't remember FFIV coming out for GBA.

IV, V and VI are on GBA now. They had a new translation and some little extras, which I don't recall at the moment.

Just gets better and better.

The GBA version had an added dungeon you could do after beating the game which gave more backstory on each character, along with final weapons for the characters who leave the party along the way (you could add them to your group at the end of the GBA version). Also had a music player on the title screen menu.
