news from the frontline:
so i camped out last night, and you can read this story if you want, or just ignore my post.
Tuesday night i go by best buy to pick up the just released dvds (accepted and davinci code) and also to see if there was a line forming. there was no "official" line forming, but there was about 10-15ppl camping out in the park across the street.
Wednesday night around 8 oclock i start heading up to best buy to camp out to get a spot in the "official" line since the stores dont recognize anything until 24hrs before the doors open on release day. when i get there, the same 15ppl have grown to about 26, and there is now another group of ppl that just kept showing up and just seeing how this whole thing is going to go down. We are all just hanging around outside and the mgr comes out and says "by 7:00am tomorrow, you will all need to be in a single file line at this corner (points to the asian guy at the corner) and be acting in an orderly fashion, or we will have the police come and escort you all off the property"
at that time, the guys that had been camping out since monday were nowhere near where the "designated" start point was, so they all just massed around the front of the line, where as everyone else sort of started to go into line. its texas, and it is usually 60+ degrees on fall nights, but not today. i think someone got news that it was in the 40s, and all i had was my thermal underwear, a sweatshirt, my warmest blanket, and i was freezing my ass off. i managed to get about 4 hours sleep between 12 and 6am suprisingly.
At around 6 oclock, i get a nudge from a guy sitting next to me and we all start to stand up. the situation hadn't changed, there were the ppl in the line, and then the mass of ppl close to the front of the line. we (the ppl in line) decide to scruntch up and hold our ground since there was no room for the other ppl to get in line, and by around 6:45 it was basically a shove fest to try and get ppl into the front of the line.
Moment of truth, the general manager arrives at 7:15, and to our suprise, says "everyone back up, or i am calling the cops." the guys in line dont move, because if we were to just back up, the guys just hanging around the front of the line will get the front of the line, but didnt follow "the rules." unfortunately, we all started slowly backing up, and the manager was like "ok, heres the line, we dont care how yall handle who is in the line or losing their place in line, tomorrow at 8am we will hand out your vouchers blah blah blah"
The manager goes into the store, and hell breaks loose. A guy with a broken foot and was waiting in line last night goes to the front of the line to say how fucked up it was for them to not be waiting for the line and getting shoved there by the mgr. Basically, he got pushed to the ground, which is super fucked up. A little later on, someone called another person a bitch, and a fight broke loose. At that time, i said to hell with this, ill wait a few more weeks.
Best Buy was only getting 20 60gigs, and 8 20gigs, and there were about 60 ppl in line. I was about number 36 give or take. What really gets me going is how almost everyone in line was asking if they were going to keep the system or sell it. Everyone i heard said they were going to sell it, which just pisses me off, because its a system to enjoy, not to just rake in a profit. even the rich ass college kids w/ their 2006 mustangs and z71 trucks were all in line and going to sell them. On the other hand, me the saturn driving, working for my college self wants to buy the system so i can enjoy this thing called "video games".
oh well, time to drink some coffee, take a hot shower, and start studying for the test i was probably going to fail if i camped out for the PS3 lol... it was fun
