I realize there is a FFXII sticky topic, but I don't like that one.

Well I just got the game and I've played about 2hr30 and wanted to see what others were thinking about the game also. I'm sure some of you basement kids have already beat it or something. Here's my first thoughts:

-The opening of the game is pretty cool, left me excited
-I can't get over Vaan's hair, what is going on with the back. Kind of like a seagull.
-What's up Vaan putting his hands behind his head and thrusting his pelvis at his friends and the enemy gaurds
-I'm just not happy with Vaan's character whatsoever.
-Battle is slow at first, but seems to have lots of customization later.
-I was running around trying to kill this tomato and got the shit kicked out of me by this dinosaur, can't wait to kill that

And I have no time to play this game...

It has a similar battle system to KotoR and Baldur's Gate. Someone said that before and I didn't see the similarities as much as I do now. Really SE must have been playing Bioware games lately. So far the game is progressing really slowly. I think I have already met the main villian of the story lol.

I posted my first thoughts in the other thread..but I'll post more!

I too can't get over Vaan's look. I know people have bitched about it to the point people are posting threads (on other forums) to counter the bitching. Much like Link's look in the GC Zelda, it will never grow on me. It's just something I will have to deal with :?

I also think we have seen the main villian already :-P I haven't read ahead and won't spoil it for myself, but I'm pretty sure it's him.

I'm interested to see how fast the "basement kids" beat this. I remember when FFVIII came out I bought it exactly a week after it was released. The dorky looking kid who worked at the store, was bragging about how he beat it and put 80 hours into it already. I don't think that is impressive at all. I think it's sad.

The cool characters outnumber the shitty ones I say. Vaan's pansy hair and weird concave abs are defeated by Basche's overall kickassitude (scar, cecil hair, deadlegend beard, voice). Fran looks awesome and has great animations for all her weapons and movements, along with a really cool voice/accent.

That dinosaur doesn't aggro.

Battles get a lot more fun when you're facing tougher enemies in a 3 member party. The mixed use of gambits and manual commands makes them a whole ton of fun.

I fought the tomato bare-handed because I sold my starting sword to buy a dagger without realizing I needed a license to use it, and the shop didn't carry a License level 1 sword, which wouldn't have mattered anyway because I had like 40 gil left after buying the dagger. :(

I got a hunt commission for Nidhogg. lol

Found it, engaged it, and got aggro from a bat >_> hurraaaaay darters! Then Nidhogg went nuts at around 5% with a haste boost and started making 3 hit combos and I died.

FFXII is great. haha

Battle System feels more like FFXI in single player mode. Its a better battle system than FFXI imo (based on one player not a party).

I hate the Vaan character. This game already reminds me of FFVIII because the game feels very un-Final Fantasy (I never liked Tactics, so sue me) and the main character is ass.

Then again my Judgment is based on my opinion and I happen to think FFX was an awesome FF game.

FFX was awesome.

I think this battle system reminds me a lot of the PS2 game Summoner except you have more control over programming your allies.

I hate that Magic is Magick in this.

I'm like an hour into the game and I already like Vaan about fifty times as much as Tidus, because he's a fucking thief, steals shit, and wants to be an airship pirate. Compared to HI I'M TIDUS I KICK BALLS UNDERWATER WEEE I MAKE NO GOD DAMN SENSE! AM I REAL? I DUNNO, *POOF* I"M A BUNCH OF FLIES C U LATER LOL.

And the politics already have me hot. Political espionage, war, and Ivalice is far superior to Pansy Pilgramage Adventure. I dunno I don't remember hating ten when I beat it, but for some reason the more I think about the game the more I don't like it.

you complete me

i think its hot how they incorprate REAL things into this game, as in "we will drink untill you call me by name" with the alchohol 'reference' lol and how the old man wilkins is smoking hooka like a real middle eastern.

ffxi can hold for a few, cause im to into this game, i wish i could rename vaan though, or they didnt ever actualy say his name like in ffx. i never had to hear titus pronounced TEETUS, i could pronounce it the way i liked as TIGHTUS. and on the subect, ffx WAS a great game and for the record i never liked tactics eitehr, i didnt like the idea of not being able to walk around freely.

Agreeeed the dialogue in this game is far above the other final fantasies I think. Whenever a judge begins to speak you know your ears are going to be dancing to the words. I liked what Basch said about Vossler in the intro sequence, "Men like him don't die in places like this" it was hardcore. lol

I love the weird mixed accents too but sometimes I can't understand a word they're saying. I had to turn on subtitles ; ;

I'm 23 hours in and my strongest characters are only level 16. I don't know if this is going to be monstrously epic or if it's going to end in an extremely abrupt fashion.

Estimated at 30+ hours sans sidequests.

I always max my characters out as best I can. I had a full sphere grid done for all my favorite characters in FFX and god knows I did my best with Yarr in FFXI lol. Although I never did that with FFVIII and IX, because I just didnt get into them that much.

Yeah I have a fully maxed FFX file with 492 hours on it. All characters 99,999 hp, 255 stats, all specials, skills, spells, ultimate weapons etc. lol >.>

30 hours for a straight runthrough sounds a touch weak, but this game seems to have so many opportunities to get sidetracked so it ought to be fine.

I played for a couple more hours last night. I'm trying to figure out the basics still. I like the license board system to control character development. It kinda reminds me of the sphere grid in FFX. I don't understand the gambit system at all. I partied with that pigtail girl to get the sunstone thingy, but that didn't last long. I enjoyed the short time I spent with her killing stuff. I want to kill stuff with a full party.
