i was wondering if anyone in here could share some of their gambits that they use. I am up to raithwall and all i am using is:

party member 70% > cure
foe: party leader > attack

I want to make a charge gambit because it is getting old manually charging every time. thanks guys

I made one for attacking a mob when it's under 20% hp. I hate when my characters can finish the monster off but they're busy spamming cures and just extending the fight. Just set its priority above the cure gambits.

I walk around with
Target: Leader>Action: Protectga

Same for shellga and hastega. I put them top priority and whoever has the spell set up as a gambit will cast it whenever it wears off. The only problem I have with this is if the leader dies and I have to change leader to raise her, then the other character is gonna start casting the buff on the new leader (which is pointless) and then once the original leader is up and made leader again the others are gonna spend mp yet again. So if you're using that in that situation, just interrupt the action so they won't cast twice. Only other problem is that this can kinda eat up MP in the endless dungeon crawls so I sometimes shut it off, though in most dungeons Martyr/Inquisitor/Headsman combo makes a healthy amount of mp refresh.

I also have a Self>Libra on one of the side characters but again, if he dies in the middle of a boss fight and I need him to do something useful the moment he's up, libra is gonna fire off instead of something useful if I screw up the priority.

I set my HP cure macro to a low HP% so my supporters don't stand around curing when they can be killing, this works in my setup since I have Ashe basically being an FFXI Paladin spamming cures, saving the side characters to cure only when it's necessary. Ally30%>Action Curaga. With maxed Swiftness the team can get cures off pretty quickly.

If I'm in a tough dungeon then I only have 1 offensive gambit, and that's Foe: Leader's Target>Attack, but in easier places or just farming/exp/lp I set up for the others to attack whatever they like.

In a boss/esper/hunt where the main boss has minions I put the side characters' top priority attack gambit on Target: Foe with lowest HP, and secondary on the party leader's target, or I just set up one character to pick off minions while 2 take on the boss. A lot of times I try to stick decoy on myself then have my teammates take down minions while Ashe holds everything.

DL you just have to get use to disabling Gambits. Disable the gambit before you raise that character.

You can also manually overwrite actions. Like when someone starts casting Cure on someone when they dont need it. I just overwrite the command manually and use a potion because its faster.

Yeah now that I'm exploring the rest of the game I'm getting more into the system and trying to do things the way they're meant to be done lol. As I played through the story I did most of the game as a meat zerg with straight bloodbath fighting. No real finesse, just throwing away lots of hp/mp and enduring with raise spam and some lucky enfeebles. Played straight through without a dedicated mage.

I use wait because I am a pansy.

Next playthrough is active and finesse!

Bah! That's why it's faster for you to cancel!

I sometimes try to, and fail miserably cause I have to move so fast... Sometimes get it right though. :p

I think active mode is meant for 100% gambit users and I like to have a solid amount of manual control.

If the game isnt on Wait mode, does everything still continue to run while youre in the main menu screen? So if you need to swap players the game still runs while you figure out who to swap out?

I haven't died while fleeing yet. Everybody disengages and runs, and once you are out of the monster's native roaming area, they give up the chase.

If you hit x into the little battle screen, fight will continue as normal. Triangle into the actual Menu Screen will pause the game.

so really having "wait" on or off hardly makes a difference. I leave it on because im lazy.

In the example I gave above (about stopping a gambit before you raise someone) is something you can do even if Wait is off.

I wouldn't say that really... Wait off makes the game a bunch harder, imo... Especially in boss fights. You have little time to make random decisions if you need to, while still taking a major pounding.

And yes, you can still stop a raise if Wait is off, but you need to be quick is what I meant. And being quick can lead to mistakes, especially with Swiftness on. >_<

I took wait off last night. I see no difference other than it speeds up the fight.

I still can never find my items on the item list, I would be beaten to death while looking for chrono tears. I'd need a gambit I guess >_>

Ah right I forgot you can do that, I'm used to ffxi not letting you sort your crap up as you see fit.

Meanwhile I'm wondering if I can kill behemoth king by nuking then fleeing repeatedly lol
