I fought gil at level 58. The first fight is easy. The second fight's a pain in the ass. In the second fight he has Level 2 sleep, level 3 disable, and level 4 petrify. The stupid dog spams his death fang attack and hits like a champ. The dog took me 20 minutes to kill just from dealing with death and sleep (and gil beating us up). Once it was dead I tried to get everybody as buffed as possible then decoyed my tank and rushed him. Tank got dropped in 10 seconds.

He really hits like a truck. Ashe had around 5500 or 6k hp(with bubble belt) and was getting hit for 2k-2500. In the last half of the fight he uses this big crazy cutscene attack, and in the last bit of the fight he was regularly pulling off 6 hit combos, while spamming the shit out of his spells.

So try to go into it with level that isn't divisible by 2 or 3. Petrification is dog ass in this game so eh. Whatever you steal from him, equip on someone right away because it's good stuff. Each fight has 4 stages (cutscene, he'll say something and change his main sword), and each stage has a different steal package. 2 in each fight are a genji armor.

zodiac spear on dd. ensanguined shield on tank. that got me through the fights. i remember all 3 of those fights to be very easy. i was in the 40's for gilg, around lvl 50 for goliath and death

really no fights so far were hard. fafnir, hell wyrm, behemoth king, they were all easy. i guess i thought the fatty esper in the garamscythe waterway was kinda tough. the dragon in the forest that confuses and sleeps you was tough.

all my guys are 70+ now i just need to level up and fight yiazmat and omega

no wonder it was easy for you, those are bad ass equips! im currently getting through the lighthouse, which is the last part you can do before you have to enter the final dungeon of no return. i find it quite challenging right now in the tower just because its taking forever and my items are blocked :-X

I did it in the upper 40s I think. maybe low 50s. Beat the game at 55 and I did gilgamesh first.

my basic strat was Lure + tank and spank

I had the misfortunate of having all my people either divisible by 2 or 3 so I had balthier with his avoid sleep acc on the fulltime, Ashe with bubble belt, and penelo had to switch between avoid sleep and avoid don't act accessories based on what attack he was charging to use.

I had ashe as my maintank do the majority of the heavy MP usage. So curaja and esunaga and that kind of thing as much as possible. Balthier just whittled him down from range with his gun, and penelo hung aroudn refreshing buffs and doing healing/stat curing.

I also had that black dude as a guest, he died a few times, but mostly he was some small extra DPS especially when he was braved and zerked. And also could take a shot or two when lure dropped.

The key is to definitely take out the dog asap.

the first part of the fight had penelo using Nukes for 9999 while the melee types bumrushed the dog. First time I lost because my guest was attacking gilgamesh and not the dog.
