I'm posting this here since I fail at searching online. You guys seem to know the answers anyway! It will be easy for you.

Does Nintendo plan on adding the ability to play games online with other people/friends, for Wii? All I see right now for Wii is online web browsing, exchanging pictures, and downloading games.

I read they have friend codes similar to DS, but only 1 code is required for the system not the games (good thing). I can't seem to find if you can play games with people online...or if ever.

lol, who told you that? Nintendo is planning to make almost all of their titles online enabled, it just that they didnt have all the bugs worked out before launch. And i read recently that super smash may not be online, its still up in the air.

if any nintendo game goes online it has to be super smash brothers. they would be some really stupid mother fuckers if they decided not to make that game online when they have the capability to do so D:

Remember, no Ace Combat has ever gone online. Don't jinx smash bros.

Sorry for the necro, but i was talking to my manager and he said the reason why they already announced online compatability with pokemon is because its easy to handle compared to a fast paced game like Super Smash. Since nintendo opted for the Wii to have Wifi only, anyone who has a lagtastic connection will be able to teleport from one side of the screen to the other. This is because with wirless internets, the information is sent in packets, and not streamlined like a wired connection.

Packets are the way information is sent on the internet period, wired or wireless connection doesn't matter. Wireless just has a lower amount of bandwidth. It just isn't as fast in most cases than what you could run on a wired network (100Base is 100mbit/s). Wireless technology has grown quite a bit. 802.11g wireless still is 54mbit/s which is faster than broadband internet connections anyways. Your actual connection is the bottleneck.

What would be the difference between online Metroid Prime 3 for Wii and Online Metroid Prime Hunters for DS which I can play on wifi at full speed with people across the world?

There shouldn't be much of a difference in how the games play online Wifi or not. Depends on how many people are using your connection, how many players are in the game, and how the packets are coded. Really efficient network coding obviously makes for smaller packets and therefore less lag. Really Sega and MS got a big leg up on Sony and Nintendo with Dreamcast (MS helped Sega with the online functionality) and then XboxLive. It has much more efficient network coding. I do hear PS3 is an improvement on PS2's online capabilities, but I haven't played PS3 online yet.

SSBB will NOT be online. Pokemon Arena will be the first game that uses online capability.

if thats true ponuh, thats the dumbest thing nintendo can possibly do. Especially considering that the wii was created with wifi/internet capabilities its really inexcuseable to not have online play. Now isn't the time for them to be lazy about things like that.

I would have understood if the game came out with wii at launch but it didn't, so they have time to add that into game.

Nintendo has a great chance in gaining ground with consoles , so they need to do as much as they can. Anyway i'm off I got a wake to go to.

Thats really sad SSBB won't be playable online, when DOA4 and other somewhat similar games are playable online already. I would be surprised if we didn't see more fighting games with online capabilities. It sucks SC3 wasn't online.
