Post subject:  Moving On

In terms of the cycle of MMO player base death and rebirth FFXI is sort of fading away from peoples memory. The earlier generations are definitely absent, CKD is long dead, and the remnants of NA HNM shells are slowly and painfully dying out even from the stock of newer generations. Its a terrible, slow, and agonizing process, but lo on the horizon distant obsessions call. They're new games in the works, more mind-numbing MMO grinders to happily throw our hours at. So what new games are you looking for? What are you hoping will be your next FFXI? (Or even your next WoW). Or.. have you decided to call it quits for good and spend more time with that special someone? What on hopes of hopes are you looking foward to in terms of the MMO scene? For me honestly one of the most exciting parts was looking foward, and finally, creating a character in a game I really wanted to play. So, let me rekindle that giddy excitement of upcoming gaming goodness. Let's set aside our FFXI sins and join hands to take a peek at any upcoming prospects...

Lord of the Rings Online: Backed by a very big franchise, this game looks to be a true overlord of the MMO scene. I know they're people who know a lot more about this game than I do since its in beta, however, this is still most likely a clear pick in my mind for people who're after the classical and familiar fantasy setting.

Vanguard: Saga of heroes: They're nothing but glowing reviews from any fan or from any PR person behind the making of Vanguard, but much like Bush's policies, believing in something doesn't always make it work.. so, with that in mind, I have no idea what to see in this game or if it is really any good. I hear "amazing" but I also hear its convoluted and the biggest time sink of anything conceived, ever--quite contrary to the advertising towards hardcore players without somehow taking their lives away from loved ones. Love it or hate it, if your looking forward to it please do tell.

Aion: Tower of Eternity: Corwin introduced me to this game last night and I have to say it does look attractive. Angels versus Demons versus dragons, the former two player controlled and the latter computer dragon faction to bring a little balance in case the holy crusading or the satanic rituals get a little out of hand.

Pirates of the Burning Sea: Pirates set in a faux historical setting of the Caribbeans in 1720 where Pirate, English, Spanish, and French factions struggle to fuck each other over, take ports, take ships, take loot, and just generally plunder. Sounds like the ultimate grief game, but we'll see, haha

These are a handful of some popular picks coming down the line. There's still more WoW content on the horizon so I imagine many are going to stay put, and there's possibly World(s) of Starcraft, another Blizzard title to consume more souls. Or are you sick of MMOs? Do you want to swear off the genre for good? Have you made the choice to either give them up for irl or just off line games? What're you looking forward to if you want to keep up with the genre?

Vangard Saga! I really would love to build a gaming PC and start playing that. I have several good friends from FFXI who are playing it now. I have nothing against MMOs. My good times in FFXI were better than any good times I've ever had in any video game. I honestly get sad looking at old screenshots.

I have heard that Vangaurd is going to be pretty, but the game play is very flawed, LOTR looks kinds neat, but i am not a fan of the books or movies, so i dont know if i would want to play that.

Right now i am on my 10 day free trial of WoW, and i definately see why people like it, i got 1-20 solo on druid in 6 days, and it was fun! i didn't lose exp when i died, and even tho i couldnt use the AH or trade with people, i am going to get the full version asap, but i wont quit FFXI, i will use it like i am now, when i login at midnight, the LS is doing nothing, and i LFP on 48NIN for an hour or more, i can log onto WoW and solo quest and be amused by the little NPC's that do funny things after i collected shit for them.

Actually, after they launched beta, there's been nothing but AWFUL reviews from players. The game needs a LOT of work and it's more or completely unplayable and unstable.

Here's a 1920X1200 pic Wain took from Vanguard Saga.

Look at the water!

A couple people from Monarchy are playing it now and they love it. I haven't heard any reviews other than that.

Really? haha I was just going on the last discussion we had, where there was a rabid fan base that assaulted anyone who didn't let themselves be molested by the awesomness that is VANGUARD. Although I mean it does seem neat though if it was polished, having your own house and shit.

A lot of games have housing. EQ2, FFXI, SWG ect all had player housing. When the playerbase was assaulting everyone, that was BEFORE they had played the game. The fanbase has fallen off steeply since then.

Was in Beta for Vanguard, impossible to play with my computer. I hear good things but way too Everquest-y. Way too involved.

Age of Conan looks interesting, so does Warhammer. but eh.

PSU has a room like FFXI, but you can buy a shop and set it up like a bazaar, and theres a lot of furniture and room models you can get.

Vanguard water does look nice though.

i have gone mmorpg-less. also ffxi is still probably the main thing i think about, everything is compared to it even non-video-game stuff. and if i'm ever not thinking about anything in particular, i automatically default to ffxi.
also i listen to all 5 ffxi soundtrack discs more than probably all 250 of my other cds combined. ...very sad haha

I'm going thru a certain withdrawl. Lately i've found myself with nothing to do. And i've been very tempted to come back. I however constantly remind myself why I left in the first.

Not sure if i have heart to do anything of what i did, IN any caliber anymore.

My brother tryed to get on my acct to play a couple weeks ago. (He leveled my SMN to 70) And he said the password changed. I called SE and had them reset it and when got back on all my characters and content IDs were cancelled and deleted.

I called SE back and they said they'll "look into" getting a character resto. And they said I had to call them back in days because they wont call or email me at all.

I had a 75 pld 75 nin 70 smn and my brother had a 67 brd and 54 rdm on his taru. If SE doesnt do something im gonna become a mad angry black man.

Holy shit... man you need to check for spyware/keyloggers on your PC.. or you must have given your password to some total douchebag.

If that happened to me I would just quit, even though 75 BRD wouldn't be too horrible to do again. Aalan is trying to talk me into starting Vanguard.. I kinda want to start a new PvP BE Paladin, Mage or Rogue in WoW. In reality I will go back to FFXI and hopefully be able to be as hardcore as I was in 2004/early 2005.

Its almost impossible to go back and play like we use too.

Since I can't find any game I want to play....I have been getting the urge to play FFXI again. But like Yarr and Mikey said, it isn't what it used to be. I would remember why I quit really fast after I started playing again. I would love to go back and relive the good FFXI times. FFXI has satisfied me in ways no other video game ever has or will. It's sad but true. Looking at old screenshots actually makes me sad irl.

I get nostalgia feelings 'cause I used to listen to this one CD while playing all the time, and hearing the music from the game when Dmitry plays makes me want to play again, but its prolly not worth it.

Yah. I reactivated my account a few months back. I even went the easy route and did BLM to 18, WHM to 30 and then started to take BRD up. Probably the easiest choice for gaining exp.

But the game definitely wasn't the same. I did enjoy organizing the Promyvion runs for my little newbie LS, but I couldn't take myself to keep leveling up past BRD45. Too much crap I'd have to redo that I didn't really want to have to relive.

Maybe if I would have gotten my old account back, it would have been different, but I don't know. The stuff I enjoyed doing back in the day no longer exists. I loved helping newbs with trains in the dunes and jungles, and I loved fishing.

The fishing system in ffxi completely blows to the point where it seems to almost force one to bot. It wouldn't have affected me as much on my original char, since he was already 88 fishing, but creating a new character and leveling up fishing. No thanks.

I don't want to play any MMO with a stressful end-game, though. So who knows. I'm playing BC right now and joined a PvP guild. I'll see how long I last. haha.

If we could start a private FFXI server, that would fucking own. Get all of the retirees and cool people from Ifrit to start over again without the JPN, RMT, and other annoyances. There would eventually be some juicy drama lol. I would do it in a heartbeat. Somebody figure out a way to host a FFXI server!

I bet a lot of people would quit Ifrit to start over on it also.

Private servers are stupid though. The plan is ruined!
