http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165595.ht ... ws;title;0 Sony Pictures making Metal Gear movie Executive confirms his movie studio is working on the live-action adaptation of the seminal stealth-action series. By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Posted Feb 8, 2007 10:21 am PT At the Electronic Entertainment Expo last year, Konami revealed that work had begun on a live-action movie based on Metal Gear Solid. The news broke via a pamphlet for Studio Kojima, the Konami-owned development house headed up by Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima. "I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," Kojima said in a statement. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood." For eight months, the identity of the aforementioned "party" was unknown. That changed this week, when Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau revealed his studio is developing the project. "We're working with the Metal Gear guys," Landau told GameSpot following his D.I.C.E. Summit keynote in Las Vegas. "It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie-telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'" Landau also hinted the Metal Gear Solid movie may just be the beginning. "There are other games we are looking to develop," the executive said. "We're working with one of my favorite producers right now on an idea for an EverQuest movie." The producer was apparently of such stature that Landau declined to name him. "I'll let him disclose that," he said cryptically. Besides the forthcoming World of Warcraft film, currently in development at Warner Bros., the Metal Gear Solid movie is the highest-profile game-film project in Hollywood. Previously, that that stature was held by the Peter-Jackson-produced Halo adaptation, which imploded last year. |

Theres a WoW movie in the works? Thats pretty crazy lol. I think MGS could be a pretty awesome movie since the game is very story driven and the "crazy action" is limited to being pretty real. Although I havent ever played a MGS game in my life so... lol. |

Halo movie might not make it, because the makers are asking for so much money to produce it. (Like, WAY more than Ironman) The WoW movie will be ghey cause theyre not using CG. MGS might be cool though. |

I wonder if it'll be based on one of the games or something separate but related in the timeline. It'd be cool for it to be an integral and as-of-yet unseen part of the story. Needs moar Ocelot. Some of the crazy action involves a cyborg ninja using just a sword to topple a gigantic mech with a nuclear capable rail-gun. Other crazy action involves a man using bees to form a machine gun...which shoots bees, a telekinetic psycho shaking your controller, a bisexual vampire (mikey's favorite) walking on water, and some huge black chick deflecting bullets with the power of luck. Besides that, pretty down to earth. |

Snake is American. If Sean Bean could actually speak an American accent I'd choose him, needs a beard though. Accent was horrible in Silent Hill, but he has konami movie connection lol. |

Chuck Norris as Solid Snake!!!! no lie, it would sell like hot cakes plus he has the looks as well as perfect training for it, the acting ability may need work though. |

I like Nick Cage, but not as an action star. I would suggest Thomas Jane, but he already has Punisher 2 in the works right now. Kurt Russell would've made a great Solid Snake about 10 years ago. Keifer Sutherland would be great if the world didn't already see him as Jack Bauer. I dunno, can't really think of anyone. |

Maybe it'll be like the SouthPark episode, except with hidden content or whatnot, and all the acting is done over TS. |

it would be a good movie, but i just hope it won't be like a mission impossible with lots of typical action (ie huge explosions, shooting off entire clips) and they must implement snake vs monkey into the movie or i will not go see it |

It depends on what age they are doing Solid Snake at really. People have mentioned Eric Bana and Christian Bale as possibilities (they have each played superheros before though). The action has to be ridiculous for it to be MGS.... look at what Ocelot does lol. There will be zero realism, though there shouldn't be tons of bullets fired. Lots of sneaking around and breaking necks, sleep darts, etc. Of course there has to be a cardboard box and cigarettes. |

Personally if they are smart they'll pull a Metal Gear Solid type move, and make the Main character of the movie someone other than snake ( a la raiden). Not because snake isn't awesome, but because imo the best way to make a video game movie, or a movie video game is to use familiar elements from the source, but offer an original, or continuation of the story as it is known. So a side story to a metal gear game, or a what happened after kind of thing. That doesn't naturally preclude Snake as the main character, and he should be in it, but I think so long as they have some stealthy action, some flipping, some neck snapping, and some guy on foot taking out the occasional jet and strangely powerful villain type it'll be reminiscent of a metal gear game without causing people to go "They ruined the story of the game" and similar such criticism. |

If they make a MGS movie and Solid Snake isn't the main character.. the backlash will be insane. The movie might get protested. That would be worse than Spirits Within. |

i honestly thing a WoW movie would be fucking retarted, but its garenteed to make millions, just with the title, so i guess it doesnt really matter... im kinda pumped for a MGS film though... sounds intense |

I love Jean Reno, but I don't think he does an American accent. Not that I've ever heard at least. |

from imdb: "Born in Casablanca, Morocco, to Spanish parents (from Andalusia) who moved to North Africa to escape the fascist regime of Francisco Franco ("El Caudillo"), Jean Reno settled in France at 17." He's definitely not Russian. |
