Post subject:  MMO Moments: what makes mmo's such a ridiculous part of life

Hmm, i think we've all brooded enough over the time we spend playing mmos, and most of us have felt the nostalgia of moments long gone. If you're a newer player you're probably just enjoying the venturous ignorance, but it's alright.

I think i decided a while back that the time ive personally spent on mmos was all worth it; about 270 days played over them all. I'm still only 19, heh. But its the world of the mmo, the people of the mmo, not just the game itself that make it so ridiculous.

The reason im posting this is because after quitting WoW for, what, 1.5 years, I log onto my old server and a 70 paladin, who's now in my old guild, messages me. Apparently I was chilling on my alt hunter a year before, and the paladin had needed help with hogger. i saw a priest nearby and quickly group invited the priest so they could both get credit. The now-70 paladin tells me, he married the priest, heh. there are hundreds of moments like this for me from ffxi, ones that just hit me as if it was real life, and i was wondering if any of you felt the same way. maybe im getting too sentimental for a non-pussy crowd, but meh, ive been detached from most of you since yarr broke my shell :P

anyways, every time i hear metallica i get flash backs to crawlers nest where i used to have it on repeat while grouping... sigh.

remember how.. once you finally make it to the far tunnel in crawlers nest you feel like the old guys of crawlers nest, kinda like a senior in high school. you see all the little freshman just arriving at the entrance and watch them get chased around and yelled at, all lost and confused. you have to save their asses. hehe

I felt really accomplished when my RDM (first job) got to the LV50 camps in CN. Then a moment or two later i probably got owned by a nest beetle with 5 links.

It's just the culture that's being cultivated where online relationships are increasingly common. I knew a dude who met his wife on fucking Ultima Online. When people actually played it. Five years ago people would have looked at it as strange, now it's socially tolerated.

Koda's the love doctor!

I still talk to and occassionally play (WoW now) with friends I made playing Everquest way back in the day.

Also got a Free trip to Las Vegas ( and a like $400 sony Handycam) from playing Everquest 2.

When I finally got to equip my Wizard Petasos I was pretty pumped. I had no ls but my friend Kalade popped me into a spot on an alliance he was helping with the blm af3 and so I got mine. Otherwise I probably would have just quit blm at 59.

For my pld coat I fought the NMs with myself on blm, aemon war, naomiwatts whm, and taylon samurai. It was pretty epic since we didn't clear the whole area to begin with. I ended up soloing half of level 59 on ep-dc mobs, took all friggin day but finally equipped my coat and thought, "this thing looks 3 sizes too big."

For my rdm hat I triod the feiyin ghost as blm with help from rdm+whm. I waited over a week to have enough friends online for the garlaige doll but gave up on it and gave it a shot solo as pld/rdm. Took 35 minutes but got the job done. lol

Other random crap, like surviving a third gates of hades and being the last man standing in the tank pt on the first NA cerberus stand out. Helping friends with junk, soloing crap for random lowbs, the first besieged loss (and all the last stands at the Hall of Binding), crazy exp parties (Nidhogg crawlers, Nidhogg birds lol, the time I had to die to save my party from our braindead rdm, surviving sickle slash with 1 hp), Dynamis heroism, etc.

However, nothing tops The Alamo Nidhogg; the most epic fight ever to take place in the history of FFXI. 1 tank, 60 minutes, 3 Darters, 19 deaths, 2 M Bodies.

Camping Leaping Lizzy, falling asleep and waking up at 3 AM to see him spawned right in front of me. I think Mithsavvy was the only other person camping him.

Made a cool 200k that day.
