Who has been playing this or beat it already? What are your thoughts? I am playing it very slowly. This is my favorite RPG ever. I played FF3 for SNES more times than any other video game in my life. The game is perfect. I love being able to play it on my DS (looks much better than on GBA) and bring it everywhere with me. The only thing I dislike about the game...is they changed the translation! They renamed Espers, re wrote the story script....AND CHANGED THE WORDS IN THE GODDAMN OPERA SCENE!!!!!!!11111 I was seriously upset at the opera scene last night. I have other favorite story bits later in the game, they likely changed. Also the music didn't make the transfer well (I think I read people complaining about that in another thread on here). It's really noticeably different. |

I've been playing it and I'm reminded why this game is the best game ever made. Every little twist and turn in the story is just perfect, the characters are awesome and interesting, everyone has different abilities so battles never really get boring, there are so many secrets and open-ended sidequests, I could go on and on. I'm about 40 hours into it, and I still have a lot to do. I love the new translation of the story, it seems more polished. The only part of the translation I don't like is how they changed the names of some espers and items. Some of the changes seem unnecessary, like Illumina is now Lightbringer, Shoat is now Catoblepas, or Tritoch is now Valigarmanda. Not a big deal though. Even though this is a port of a game I've played 4-5 times over the last 15 years, it's still the BEST. GAME. EVAR. |

I played it a ton on SNES and loved it. I only played it all the way through twice on PSX (in Anthology or whatever), the last time I played it was right before I started FFXI. I haven't played it since. I too am being reminded why this game is so great! Perhaps I should be more open minded about the script change. They didn't need to change the opera scene ; ; I loved the original words to the song. I dunno why lol. I'm excited to see the new content. I don't want to spoil myself, so I haven't read about it at all. I'm only 9 hours in at the moment. |

I cqan't remember where I am and I haen't played this game enough to remember it all perfectly so it's all good to me I love the way youcan customize with espers I am past zozo. I fucking hate that town but I remember it being a lot harder on sners/ps1 setzer blows, I use bliits, gau, celes (healer), and cyan/ed/terra. Terras transofrmation is too fast though, but she is a strong and widely varying mage |

my least favorite characters are Cyan - his magic blows, his bushido is way too slow, he doesn't get access to the really good weapons. Gau - I can see how people like him because supposedly his rages get really strong, but I always viewed him as a tag-along who really doesn't add much to the story. Gogo - his stats suck pretty bad since you can't raise them through espers, and we never learn anything about him. My favorites are Locke Relm Shadow Mog Umaro Sabin Edgar |

Oh yeah duh! Forgot Setzor. Yeah he's on my list of characters I dislike. Gogo is an optional character found at the triangle island in the northeast corner of the world of ruin. You get eaten by a "zone eater" (I think they are called) and navigate a cave to get him. He has no part in the story like Thunderstomp said. The cool thing about him, is he can use everybodys abilities. You can configure him however you want. He's pretty weak but he's fun to customize lol. |

No, more like abilities. Like Blitzes, Sword Techs and shit. He automatically learns any spell from people who are in your party though. Gogo also appears in FFV as a boss. When you beat him, you gain access to the mime class. |

Blitzes are pretty fucking wicked. One thing that always struck me odd about this game is that you can freely use all these ridiculous abilities at no price. I have not once launched a regular attack with Edgar or Sabin. |

Just finished the main game, moving onto Dragon's Den. Stole a Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon (a second one) from Kefka's final battle, and you get to save and keep them this time, which means you can go back and get even more of them. Lightbringers (Illumina) for everybody! The translation is much better done, and all the abilities and spell names were updated to match their modern counterparts (FF10/11/12) and they also got rid of the stupid CAPS FOR NAMES crap, lol. At the same time they kept a lot of nostalgia things such as names that were actually translation errors. IE: Ultros != Orthros, Terra != Tina, Kefka != Cefka, etc. The opera scene lyrics were changed so they actuaklly fit the damn music. That annoyed me on the SNES way more than any of the other stupid translation errors (I mean seriously, Fenix Down? Merton?) ----------- On to characters preferences... Sadly not everyone in FF6 is given the credit they are due. Everyone loves Terra, Sabin, Edgar, Locke, etc, because not only do they have powerful attacks and stuff, but they're pretty well integrated into the story and you get attached to them easily. I mean, really, Locke is actually not that great in battle, but everyone loves him as a character so he always ends up in everyone's party dual weilding Ultima Weapon/Valiant Knife, or Lightbringer/Excalibur, with a Master's Scroll to boot. Which to be fair would make anyone overpowered, not just Locke, lol. Celes' Runic becomes kinda useless late-game when you start really heavily relying on Magic. Nothing is more annoying than having your Raise and Curaga spells absorbed by Celes. But again, she's popular because she's a good story character and has decent magic stats. Mid-game, Terra's esper form is totally way overpowered lol. Being able to hit bosses with spells for 9999 damage while everyone else can barely break 2000 is just too much. Equip a Soul of Thamasa on her and you can go for the old "Ultima > Quick > Ultima > Ultima > Ultima > Ultima" routine for easy boss killing. Gogo is way more useful than people give him credit for. Maybe not so much for your main party, but when you need to split into 2 and 3 parties, he's awesome for your backup party. Not only can he use Blitz (spamming Phantom Rush instantly makes him a decent damage dealer) but he automatically knows every spell other characters in your party know without having to teach them him. Setzer is an awesome low/mid-game character if you equip him with Fixed Dice (They have an attack rating of 19, so it'll never be equipped automatically, try it out), because it allows him to attack regardless of stats, and deal 9999 damage even at level 1. Gau is a love him or hate him kinda character. Gau actually gets access to lots of spells and abilities way before you can normally get them using his Rages. He gets Firaga/Blizzaga/Thundaga in the WoB, not to mention Reraise. Gau can also get "Shock" (Yes, Leo's "Shock" attack) -- However, losing control of him is annoying, especially on bosses where timing and curing is important. And he is a really weak character storywise and not very likable outside of battle so he gets shoved aside a lot. Strago is kinda useless sadly, his Lores are all pretty weak compared to tier 3 elemental spells, and even his best Lore "Grand Delta" is weaker than Ultima anyway. Poor Cyan gets a lot of flak from people because his stats are not that great, and his moves can't really be spammed because of the charging time on them. Oblivion (Tech ![]() ------- And lets not forget Kefka. It's quite interesting when you think about how he starts off as the comic relief henchman through the whole game and then suddenly out of nowhere, BAM, he turns on his master, actually succeeds in destroying the world, and becomes a God! All in all, yes, best game ever. Also. http://www.sonofasubmariner.com/more.html |

I'm at the same part of the game you are Ket. I'm just now getting to the Dragon's Den. Actually I went in already and got my ass handed to me against a certain dragon where you need to equip a certain relic to survive, so now that I know this I'm headed back in soon. I think a lot of people like Locke in endgame because of the Valiant knife. Since it deals more damage the lower your HP is, just don't cure Locke after every battle and he can usually take out anything in one round. Anyone with the Master Scroll and boosted strength would be a good dmg dealer, but the valiant knife makes Locke one of the better candidates. I'm still not a huge Gogo fan. His stats are so low, that all his spells kind of suck. He can't equip anything decent, and he's slow. I do like him better than Cyan or Gau, so he makes it into my alliance as the 12th character. Can you really go back and fight Kefka again and and get more Ragnaroks? I was not aware of that. |

Yeah you can. Once you have that Gold-Star on your save file, you can keep going into Kefka's Tower and beating the game over and over. Just remember to steal the Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon from the two enemies in the third part of the final battle (Don't forget to equip the Thief thing on Locke beforehand, he'll have a hard time stealing them without it). As long as you sit through the entire credits again, and save, you'll get to keep everything and Kefka's tower will be reset again. Quick trip to the colusseum afterwards and you have yourself another shiny new Lightbringer. EDIT: By the way, what relic makes that Ice Dragon fight easier? I kept dying to it. Eventually I went out and uncursed my Paladin's Shield, put it on Terra along with the Soul of Thamasa, and basically soloed it using Trance, Quick and Ultima spam. |

I've only ever played the SNES game, and it's been years since I've done so. The Ice Dragon is usually the second one I ever try to tackle, so it's usually relatively easy. (The dragons get harder in the order you fight them, or at least they did in the SNES version) Short of making sure everyone has at least Fire I to cast on teammates if they freeze, I don't really have much of a suggestion. He was never that hard for me. |

On my second try I beat the Ice Dragon, I didn't have any specific relic equipped to protect myself. I used soul of thamasa, genji/master on Locke, dragoon gear on mog, and basically just beat it into submission. I was about lvl 52-55. |
