So here are the officiall NDP Numbers for February.

Quote:
Nintendo DS 485,000
Wii 335,000
PlayStation 2 295,000
Xbox 360 228,000
PlayStation Portable 176,000
Game Boy Advance 136,000
PlayStation 3 127,000
GameCube 24,000
Xbox 480

VG Industry (HW, SW, & Accessories - up 53%!)
2006: $639M
2007: $978M

Canadian numbers

Wii 28,556
PS2 23,191
DS 22,870
360 12,390
PS3 6,084

This is insane. PS3 is getting the crap kicked out of it by Wii and 360. The only systems that 360 out sold were the GameCube and orignal Xbox lol.

this is madness. I mean who honestly thought that the Wii would be on top like this. I mean everyone knew that the Wii was going to be compeditive, but mother of god, this is beyond anything I ever imagined.

Nice to see PS2 and GBA STILL going strong lol.

I find it funny that GBA outsold the PS2 even after the DS came out for not much of a difference between it and the DS' price.

tbh, I didn't think the Wii would be on the top selling list until XBOX360 and PS3 did something incredibly stupid, or until they were sold out on launch day everyone in my state.

Sony and microsoft are probably laughing right now. I think.

By my math, this is how i would look at it =] (give or take)

Wii 335,000 * $250 = $83,750,000
Xbox 360 228,000 * $400 = $91,200,000
PlayStation 3 127,000 * $600 = $76,200,000

Xbox 360 and Wii currently make a profit on each system sold. Sony takes a big hit for every PS3 sold. So maybe its a good thing that so many PS3s are sitting on the shelf.

Except that Nintendo actually profits off of their much cheaper to make console. Sony and MS lose money on every console sold (Sony moreso with blue laser diodes). Nintendo also sells more because it is cheaper and still considered next-gen for some reason. Still I don't know if everyone has a HDTV to take advantage of PS3 or Xbox360. Nintendo profits quite a bit off of the wiimote and nunchuck as well. They are owning MS and Sony hard in the profitability department (especially with DS), which is what is important. Nintendo has to because videogames are their primary income.

Sony rapes people on most of their goods and everyone knows what MS does with Windows. They both can afford to make consoles and sell them below cost (well at launch) just to sell overpriced software.

Sony also has the weird habit of releasing, but deciding not to make the effort to move their product to stores. The PS2 Broadband adapter comes to mind. Sony's PS3 launch, if anything, doomed them right from the start.

Well, the reason why PS2 is still going so strong is because it completely owned last generation. Now, when you have all the cheap/not rich/poor/mexican parents who come into stores to buy a system for their child (the kid who wont know the difference), PS2 is the only sytem readily in stock. Add to the fact that it has the biggest library of games and the most easily recognizable to any non gamer. You almost have to sell it by default.

Nintendo and Microsoft stopped manufacturing their old systems ages ago. So ofcourse their numbers for last generation systems would be a little off. Both companies are sitting on a lot of money by doing that...

I don't know much about console, but doesn't MS also make money from xbox users every month? Subcription to something xbox live i think? I've played the wii multiple times and i still can't seem to enjoy it as much i should. The xbox isnt all that interesting either.

Not everyone uses Xbox Live Gold. Some people don't care for online multiplayer gaming and use the free Silver version. They do have 5 million subscribers that pay 50 bucks a year (Gold).

its about a 60/70 percent attachment rate nowadays kioko. THats xbox live service. WHich may or may not be gold lol.
Last i read Ms was making about 75 dollars US, off each xbox sold. So yea they're making money. As for nintendo. Putting all of the manufactoring costs into mind, the wii costs about 130-140 dollars to produce. EACH. And nintendo in turn sells for 250. Yea so guess who's laughing at the end.

Tons of college bars and campuses are buying up Nintendo Wiis as well for those multiplayer bowling/boxing games to help their atmosphere. Much like Guitar Hero or Karaoke, this is easy promotion as drunken patrons the next day wish they had one of their own.

i enjoy my wii, but i only have wii sports atm but still enjoy it. if i had to choose, i'd pick pc over any console though.

nintendo is prolly secretly developing a wii2 with all the profit money and its all HD next-gen crap sony is trying to do.

It does for their long-term success. When PS2 finally dries up in a year or two, Sony is going to be relying on PS3 to keep them in the video game market. But by then they should have some of their better games ready to go, so it will be interesting to see what happens with Sony.

Well Nintendo and Microsoft both halted production of Xbox and GC. Sony cant milk PS2 forever.

I mean, we all know that the ps3 is immensely unappealing. It doesn't seem like every month's NDP numbers hailing the death of sony are really significant...especially since sony is still doing decently well.
