Say farewell to the 20 GB Playstation 3. As of right now it has been officially discontinued in North America (but not Japan or other territories) and will no longer be available on the Sony site or be sold by major retailers including EB Games, GameStop, Circuit City, Amazon.com and Best Buy.

The reason? It’s a simple case of supply and demand. Sony has the supply, but nobody’s demanding it.

According to Dave Karraker, Senior Director PR for Sony Computer Entertainment America, "Initial retail demand in North America was upwards of 90 percent in favor of the 60GB [PS3], so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly… Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America."


Could this be a simple reaction to a lack of demand, or is Sony planning something bigger? Perhaps, they’re preparing to concede to the demands of millions of gamers and lower the price of the 60 GB. Maybe they’re planning to release a newer, enhanced model to compete with the Xbox 360 Elite. They might even be doing a little bit of both. Don’t be surprised if you soon start hearing rumors about yet another iteration of the PS3.

Wow that's crazy. I talk some shit about PS3 but I will eventually own one when the price drops. It can sit next to my neglected 360 and Wii.

The sad thing is, if i were to ever buy a PS3 it would have to be the 20GB i mean hell i can go to wal-mart right now and drool over 3 60GB that havent sold from first shipment, so if they don't lower the price, i guess ill just have to buy none, well maybe an xbox since it should be the first to go down in price, and gears of war looks nice.

I like how they spin this report. They act like theres some demand for the 60g version lol. No one is buying the 60gig version and even less people are buying the 20gig versoin. Thats the real story here.

Gears of War alone is worth the $400 for 360 lol. That's the only 360 game I played a lot of. I thought it was my gateway drug to shooters...but I was wrong! I recently played Halo and Halo 2 and can't understand why people like them so much. I stopped playing Halo 2 about halfway through out of sheer boredom....and I'm not even going to bother with Halo 3!

I also bought Lost Planet and got bored early on and stopped.

I don't understand how I can mastrubate to Gears of War yet I dislike other shooters. Oh well. I can't force myself to beat a game if I'm not enjoying it.

I'm an RPG fan more than anything and ALL THESE SYSTEMS NEED MORE DAMN RPGS!!!!1111

The reason there's not more RPGs is cuz Microsoft got a grant from the DoD to make more Shooting Games. RPGs don't prepare the youth of today for a wartime environment! (I totally made this up lol)

Halo's story and universe shits on any other game in it's genre. The only thing that Bungie messed up with is ninja copying MGS2 with the whole story arc. But to say that they're not great just because they're popular means you have a shitty opinion on videogames.

And Halo 1&2 really shine in multyplayer. I understand why you dont like the campaign though Kluya, i hated 2's also.

Halo is populare for the same reason Wii is populare. People who were not hardcore pc gamers got a taste of what real First Person Shooters are like and more importantly, what online multiplayer FPS are like.

Exactly. Halo is pitifully easy on multiplayer. I'm terrible at FPS and I was cleaning up playing it. And singleplayer, it has a generic FPS story. An alien invasion, a galactic war, wow. It's got nothing on Half Life or its sequel.

I dont want to turn this into a Halo vs. Half-Life because they're both great games. But to say that the whole story composes of an "alien invasion and galactic war" is a horrible understatement. You either didn't care enough to listen or havent played enough of Halo to say that.

If you liked 300 than I dont see how you cant like Halo.

The story of 300 wasn't the reason why I liked it. Everything but the action in that movie sucked balls but the action was enough to make me like it.

i played Halo, it was ok, never played halo 2, and never played either online, but i loved Half-life, TFC and Counter-strike, i can't wait to get highspeed internet and buy HL2 and TFC2 and the newest CS. ill never play WoW or FFXI again when that day comes lol.

Question: Can you swap out a 20 for a 6ogb? Also, are there plans for something larger then a 60? I just fail to see why the drives are so small. I come from the storage world where 300GB/15k rpm is the standard.

I dunno about that, HL2 only lasts about a day if you are any good at fps games, and at times you can get so into CSS (gungames omg ) that you stop playing coz your fingertips are frozen and realise you've been at it for 3 hours..., but 3 hours was nothing in the day of ffxi, you couldn't even do a dynamis if you include time for people to gather up and shit.

But maybe we could start a JoS clan on CSS haha, Lars plays I think and I'm sure others do too.

That's right. PC Gaming requires very little harddrive space unless you pirate games. Especially if you're using a disc

you can upgrade the HDD, It use same size as laptop use not 3.5 HDD.
