I've been hearing about this everywhere. It's happening in August. Will this sway any of you to buy one? I wanna play a couple of the exclusive games, and there are some Blu Ray exclusive movies I want to watch (I have HD DVD). Anyways I'm going to buy one when the price drops.

still too much money for me, maybe when that hip-hop sponsorship comes through and I buy or design my own soft drink, or sell about 50+ albums/cds once they're all pressed up. I'm still not sold on the PS3.

sony lowered the price of the 60 gig model to 499$ in North america.

The 80 gig model will be sold for $599 ( with the rumored rumble axis controller) and motorstorm

That was announced yesterday. Today rumors are going all over the place that ms will be lowering the price on 360.

Core model from 299$ to 249$

Premium 399$ to 349$

And the elite model down from 479$ to 399$

There still are no games for PS3 that make it worth buying.

Its also BS that in canada the price is 549.99. It should be 499.99

ok i just found this out lol.

Basically the 60 gig ps3 model will end up being the better deal. As of right now it still has the ps2 chipset/hardware inside, which gives the system the 80-90 % backwards compatibility.
But just like the Europeans ps3, the new ps3 model will have the ps2 chipset removed, switching it with a software emulation lowering to to less than 50% or more like x360's.
The 360s backwards compatibility is much weaker in that regard. You'll have to wait till sony releases patches to allow a certain X amount of games to work.

So my suggest. If you are gonna get the ps3, get the 60 gig model.

yea lol. They've made alot of bad choices honestly. And 7 months into the product introduction they're lowered it to 499$. Its kinda bad actually.

499$ should have been the highest they went with the ps3, 599$ is way too much. Actually both prices scare people loll.

I'll end up getting the 60 gig model. I would never use the other 20 anyways. I didn't know the change would be so soon! Maybe I'll get one with my next check.

My roomates were talking about getting one soon even without the new price decrease. but now that i can tell them an older one with the ps2 chipset is what they need they will love you guys for mentioning it since they wanna turn the PS2 into gamer/gamestop to put towards the used PS3 they will purchase lol.

PS3 doesnt have any huge games that scream BUY ME! yet, but motostorm was fun at walmart, so we want to get that for sure, hell we have a Wii and we have Wii sports, Zelda:TP, Sonic: secret of the rings, and call of duty 3.

Wii sports is ok, if you dont need your arms for anything important the next day.

Zelda is pretty neat, i just can't get over the fact i seem to be doing the same puzzles from Ocarina of time, just in different dungeons.

Call of duty 3, was ok, but rather short, i never even played it and my roomate beat it and took it back to gamestop.

Sonic, has a nice play concept, but its hard and the Wii mote isn't as responsive as it needs to be, and makes the levels seem super harder than they need to be, so we quit playing it.

Yeah yeah I was a fool to buy a PS3... Sony told me they would have all these games i love (MGS, FFXII, Devil May cry, etc) but now alot of games are stepping away from the "PS3 only" title for fear of making no money it seems.

But still I truelly hope Sony can pull themselves out of this rut they are in.

Nothing is good right now, even ds is disappointing to me. I'm looking forward to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass as the handheld Zelda games have always seemed (far and away) some of the very best games on the market, and also looking forward to FF4 DS of course, but the website is still jp only so I have no idea when it would be released. Atlus has another DS game coming out later this year also which should be good.

worst part about it is that it costs sony 800 dollers to produce one PS3, so they r losing 200 bucks for every one they sell , they r doing that to push it to make money off game lisenceing

Somehow I doubt X-Box 360 will drop price because the base unit is still going to be just as much as PS3 or cheaper depending on which version you purchase. Considering flagship titles like GTA 4, Halo 3, and all the other interesting titles as well as the football games that will be released soon which will give the public a push to buy a 360 if they haven't I'm thinking there won't be a price drop until after Christmas. I could be wrong though. A $50 dollar price drop is possible just to make a few get over their buyer dissonance but I'm thinking it will be a minute before Microsoft considers this.

The E3 press conference has come and gone and they didn't announce it. I guess they announce these things close to when they happen so sales don't curb off.

Yea they added a couple of things.
33 lighter 19% slimmer.

They also added a little more ram to the unit, so umd's and games load faster. Also they changed the battery unit section.. The battery is smaller but lasts longer than the old model did. They estimate 8-10 hours compared to 4-6hours before.. Ohh and the biggest thing they added which i think is kinda cool is a built in video out function. So long as you have the wires you can use your psp as a mini umd movie player for your tv. And it upscales the images to 480p
