I just got one yesterday and I was wondering if I should get the warranty on it just in case. I know other 360s have a habit of overheating, but I heard the elite was supposed to work for a while.

Every 360 comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty. Keep your reciept.

The 360s with the smaller (65mm) chipset are the least problematic. You would need a pretty current build to get that. Some of the Elite's have the old chipset.

Just keep it well ventilated and you will be fine. Don't be an idiot like my roommate and cram it into a small enclosed entertainment center, with stuff stacked on top of it. His just overheated and gave the red rings of doom...unfortunately he has no receipt lol. He's pretty much screwed.

Yeah Jim has his the way most people do. I kept mine really well ventilated but still got the 3 red lights of death, they assured me it isn't just heating that caused the problem. Right now I just got back an entirely different 360 with a new serial and everything. This one doesn't eject discs sometimes and fails to read them lol. Sending it back as soon as I get the box probably. I could play Blue Dragon for like 10 minutes then the fucker resets. I might just buy a PS3 and Wii sooner than anticipated. I probably will still go to the midnight Halo 3 launch party at my local Gamestop and pick up my copy though.

My friend's broke from keeping it upright like that Jim. The laser slowly went out of allignment and started ruining all his 360 games. I dunno if it's a regular occurrence from keeping it standing up like that but, just thought I'd let you know.

I personally went through 5 PS2's. Keeping those upright was a bad thing. My 360 suddenly stopped working one day and I never bothered replacing it.

I want an Elite so it will match the rest of my stuff. Everything from my TV to my stand is black. The Wii and 360 + HD DVD drive throw it off.

My 360 lays flat with nothing stacked on it. I have a fan set up behind it. My PS2 was the same way (without the fan lol). I still have my launch PS2 with 8 million hours on it. Mofo still works good.

Bad. The intercooler can cause more problems over time because the fan blows in when your xbox tries to blow out. It's retarded how they made that thing.

You should save up $50 and get a year. Xbox Live Gold is worth it if you plan on using your 360 a lot.

Well, I dont know how much I'm gonna use it. I'd like to use it a lot, but being that its $450 and games are $60, I'm not too thrilled about throwing more money at it. I have enough that I can pay for Xbox live and a game or two.

You're lucky man. Pretty much everyone I know who got a PS2 had it break down on them at one point. Usually stops reading CD's first then everything else. Had one stop reading the memorycard/controllers lol.

With experience I found that taking it apart and putting a small amount of WD40 on the metal rods that the reader is on helped it.

A bunch of friends laughed at me cause I didn't have a reserve on Halo 3. They were like good luck getting it this week...

I stopped in the BX on base this morning and they had a wall of Halo 3 games for sell. They had every version and the Xbox 360 Halo edition for sell. No line either.
