A few sites have reviewed it already,
the latest is EuroGamer who gave it a great 10/10,
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?ar ... 873&page=1

Quote:
Super Mario Galaxy is an embarrassment. It's an embarrassment for platform games. It's an embarrassment for adventure games. It's an embarrassment for Nintendo and an embarrassment for the Wii. What have we all been playing at in the ten years since Super Mario 64 came out? This is what gaming ought to be like.

Bright, bold, unrepentantly loony, Galaxy is everything you wanted it to be. It's beautiful and inventive. It's pure-blood Mario without being a retro indulgence. It's a stiff platforming challenge and a free-wheeling romp. It's the best thing on Wii, and the best traditional game Nintendo has made in a decade. The only thing about it which dulls your enjoyment is the memory of all the mediocre games you've had to play in the meantime.

Thats a bold claim! There's no doubt in my mind that its probably a great game, but I need proof in order to believe all that. And if it is true, what game could possibly follow it?

I'm a Mario fanboy. I'll enjoy this game no matter what. If it's anything close to Mario 64...I'll wet myself.

I hope it is great as I love Mario and that would be a real reason to buy a Wii for Christmas/Holidays. Damn I am such a videogame whore.

From the videos I have seen, the controls look difficult, but managable, just takes getting used to. I dont think it will top mario64, you cant beat wandering around the castle and jumping into magical paintings. I liked Sunshine in where mario would burst into little bubbles of color in order to enter each world, but I dont see how delfino island is very mario 'like'. I'm really interested to see how they did world jumps in galaxy, should be intense.

If that were actually true Id already have 99 other pre-orders. It would be the best six grand Id ever spend.

i went and picked it up this morning, and i have been playing it all day, i was expecting mario64 +1, and its not, so for the first 10 minutes or so, i was pretty dissapointed from what i saw, controls are difficult to grasp at first, mario cant punch/kick nor can he dive like he does in 64, but he still has his signature (forward+Z+A) longjump so i guess its ok. but all he can really do is jump and spin, but after playing a first few levels i began to realize that the mario tornado adds a little more umph to his abilities than the punk/kick/dive did. so far i have close to 50 stars already and after the first 10 is when the game actualy starts getting fun/addicting. the whole gravity thing is really fun to play around with, Mario64 truly changed the face of platform gaming, and i think galaxy did a great job at meeting the next gen standards. galaxy has byfar the best graphics for wii so far, amazing detail, great eyecandy, the colors kind of gave me a headache so i had to tone down my tv. however, i have learned to hate the wii remote in a whole noew way, not because of the actual controls, but playing for more than a few hours really takes a tole on your fingers and wrists, i feel like ive had clenched fists for days. ohh and i almost forgot, the music is amazing, i want to buy the soundtrack if i can find one.

but yeah, its deffinatley the best game out for wii right now and its worth picking up even if your not a fan of the mario franchise... but who isnt?

Sunshine and I love this game. Its no surprise though.

The best part about this game is the co-op aspect. Sunshine is always player one. She gets to play the game as mario. I play the second player who collects all the star bits. As Sunshine likes to say Im "her Star Bit Bitch." I find its a lot more fun playing this way. Its a lot more of a challenge with Sunshine controlling mario. Its frustrating for me at times, but shes doing really well now (we only have 8 stars lol). I think after probably 20 stars shes going to be kicking ass.

Of course I have my own file that I play when shes not around, but I only play the levels we already completed.

Its just so fun being player two and helping Sunshine become a Super Mario Super Player!

final fantasy 11 should do that, make something like "maat's AF" that you can collect only by uselessly purchasing more copies of the game. i'm positive there would be lots of people buying it. at least back in the day.

Yeah Im a HUGE HUGE HUGE Co-op game play fan. Mostly because I find games played with two people at the same time are MUCH more interesting. Its probably why I enjoy MMOs so much.

It's enjoyable, not really mind blowing or anything, just a solid game.

I'm a big fan of co-op also. I would totally do the same thing as you if I had a girl who liked video games. I'd let her play the main character and I'd be the bitch...mostly because it would be cool playing a co-op game with a girlfriend and watching her enjoy it and get better. Like what you are doing.

Yeah its way more fun than playing myself. I mean I will play it myself. I didnt rent the game lol.

The best part is that she actually is getting better.

ok thats not true, the best part is when she does something really retarded and I get to laugh at her non stop.

Yarr loves it when I play. He giggles like a little girl when I beat a boss. I love this game so much! I think the hardest part is the fact that the camera angles sometimes suck and it's hard to see what's coming next. The graphics are awesome and it's great having Yarr as my star bit bitch!

I think it's important for the girlfriend to be the main character. In our situation, Yarr has played video games since he was still in the womb. I was an off-and-on video game player. My dad bought the original nintendo system for Christmas one year and my sister and I played a bunch but it didn't last forever. Therefore, since I haven't has as much game play as Yarr...it's only fitting that I be the main character and he continues to be my star bit bitch/game guide.

He even keeps me motivated when I fall off the edge and get sucked into the black hole! Damn, some of those levels are hard!!! (that's what she said).

my ex and i played it, we took turns, I agree with sunshine about the camera angles.. i was gonna say that but i didn't want to seem like a nancy boy. I could never play with my gf cuz "talking shit" is a big part of how i play videogames and I almost bring my ex to tears whenever we play a videogame together cuz every 20mins i'm like "oh look you got owned you fucking n00b hahaha lern2play gaybox" then she gives me the sad eyes and makes like she's going to turn the game off, and i apologize and shuttup for about 20mins when the mindless comments start again. but i can't help myself.. that's just the way I play.. it's like trying to bring your gf to a football game with all your buddies, or a guys night out. But i still think chicks should get into videogames and not be swayed by the male dominance aspect of them

It gets pretty frustrating at times and sunshine isnt as willing as I am to play a level over and over. I still remember playing Super Mario World for SNES with my best friend. We spent months unlocking everything and figuring out all the secrets.
We sure as hell didnt have the internet to turn too when we got stuck.

Its funny that you trash talk a lot playing games lol. I only do when its a fighting game and Im playing Talisin or one of my friends.

I tried playing Lego Star Wars with my girlfriend, and it's frustrating lol.

I checked this game out from work, but I never got around to playing it. Was going to try it out since I had to work the overnight at work, but my girlfriend fell asleep so I'm waiting.
