Sorry but XBox 360 (though RROD prone but I have warranty haha) with its game selection (and horribly addictive XBox Live Arcade games of oldies that seem to grow and grow) I'm good for now. With a shipping date of March, June, & December of 08 for a few games I'm not too inclined to go out and buy a PS3 any time soon.

Not worth buying a PS3.

Once again Versus looks fucking dope, regular FFXIII doesn't excite me at all. VS ftw.

I'm buying a 40GB PS3 after Christmas and only using it as a Blu Ray player for now. I've become a bigger fan of watching movies than playing video games lately. Lots of Blu Ray exclusives I want to own. No exclusive games I care about. I don't even care about the 360 or Wii games lately. Don't know why.

No not for you, but for the japanese rpg hungry players yes. Thats one game that always sells in the millions. It will create a domino effect in japan, tipping the scales there and forces major Japanese developers to create more games on the ps3 to take advantage of there new higher install base.

This isn't an opinion, its happened before. Look at the spikes in sales when ff7 came out on ps1. And the same comes from the ps2 when ff10 came out. Its undeniable that the game sells systems. And by the time it does come out, the ps3 will most likely be at an even lower price.

The Ps1 and Ps2 were both leading in sales when ff7 and ff10 game out. You act like FF was the reason why the systems were successfull when that couldn't be any further from the truth. Final Fantasy or any other RPG for that matter just doesn't have the widespread public affect anywhere not named Japan.

For the ps1 it wasn't necessarly doing really well in japan. Sega funny enough was beating the shit of them there, Why because they had more third party support and had a ton of in house rpgs available on their system..
Rpgs dominate still in japan, and when developers catch notice they tend to focus their support including creating other games. That may not be so Japanese and garner more interest from western countries.

Im speaking in regards to japan. Because it still is an important market. Actually you know, what im saying isn't as far fetched as your making it out to be. Dragon warrior ( japanese fucking love that game ) came out on ds recently over there and it tripled the systems sales for 2 months straight. Other developers caught a drift of that dominion effect cause suddenly people bought some of there games too.

Same thing happened with halo 3 believe it or not. A game as important as that ( though i'm over it ) was released and suddenly a higher than normal sales spike for the 360 came about. And suddenly you have a couple of new million or so consumers who want just another game or 2. You got yourself a bit of dominion effect there too.

Japan is a side market. Like in all industries producers are primarily concerned with the US first and foremost.

The one and only reason I bought a PS1 was FF7. I was in high school when it came out and was an exclusive Nintendo fanboy (my whole life really). I saw the commercials on TV and got really mad because it didn't look like a Final Fantasy game. I didn't like the cinematics, and I didn't know it would be a good RPG. It made me dislike Playstation even more.

I crashed at a friend's house one night and we got baked. He had a Playstation and FF7 and was talking about how great it was. He let me start a new game on it, and I stayed up all night playing. I went and got a PS1 and FF7 literally the next day.

You can't compare Halo and Final Fantasy. They're completely different beasts. Final Fantasy may sell well in Japan but if you look at it's overall install base compared to systems sold and you'll see how much of a discrepancy there is.

90% of the people who buy xbox buy it for Halo. Final Fantasy is good but it's laughable to assume it's one of the main reasons the PS1 or PS2 were successful. No Final Fantasy game is in the top 5 units sold for any console. Without GTA the PS2 would never have become the behemoth that it was. If FF weren't there things wouldn't have been much different.

All I'm saying is that you're giving Final Fantasy and Japan waaaaay too much credit. Japan accounts for less than 20% of the consumer market for gaming. They're just good at making em' pretty.

I have not spoken about the other markets at all. Your mixing both markets and making your argument.

Maybe I should just say that companies like SE helped sony push their consoles in japan and then eventually in other countries out the door. The story is completely different in North America. Companies like rockstar helped sony move consoles.

Oh ok my bad. When you said that Final Fantasy was going to push a lot of PS3's like it did for PS1/2 I thought you meant across all markets.

That said I'll prolly buy a PS3 when versus comes out. It looks pretty sweet.

I'd like to say they're both equal. But they aren't. Techincally speaking the xbox 360 is better. Even with the horrible and unreliable design of the system. The ps3 is building up momentum. But currently does not hold a candle to both the xbox 360 and Wii

wii has crap games and crap controller
while xbrokex360 is a red ring of death waiting to happen

ps3 is reliable and has better games. and has the only exciting 2008 lineup. and blu ray. and free network helps the cost a lot. i just cant see any comparison. not even close in my book.
