Yep. Target had one $350 version left so I went and got it, along with Ace Combat 6, FFXI full expansion set, and BioShock since it was cheap and everyone loves it. All this online crap bothers me, I think my online name is GeneralDefault and my offline name is DeadLegend. No clue how that works. I don't have an hdtv, just a plain old tv that I haven't even managed to hook the 360 up to yet. The tv only has the cable hole, so I plugged the 360 through my cable box but couldn't get the 360 picture to show since I couldn't find the LINE station (couldn't change the input). Jacked my mom's hdtv for the night to install/play stuff. So I hooked it up directly to this with the red/blue/green wires and got the system going, but with no sound lol. Had the little plug flipped to HD setting and everything, no clue what happened. So I gave up on that and just used the red/yellow/white. Works fine now. How much of a difference would I actually notice if I hooked this up to an HDtv using the HDMI wire? Ace Combat sounds fantastic, but honestly this visually doesn't seem like the enormous leap we saw going from PS1>PS2. Not to shit on the game, it looks amazing , but still. I have faith in the system and I'm sticking with it, so if HDMI is the way to go then I'm in. |

Games with 720p or 1080p you will notice a difference. When I first got my PS3 I was playing it on my old sony vega trinitron flatscreen that I got back in 2000. I got my samsung 42" a month later. The difference is huge with an HDMI cable. With your usual RBG component wires, you're playing at 480i. HDMI with HDTV is the way to go man. Good thing though for you, HDTV prices are dropping like flies. By this summer the TV that I bought (worth 2000$, my brother works at the store I bought it at, so I got it for 1300$) Will be worth 800$ in stores. Because of the fact that HDTV will be the standard, since analog broadcasting is being killed, the TV's are allready dropping. If you're a patient person, wait till summer or fall and you can get yourself a big LCD HDTV with 1080p for next to nothing lol. It will be worth it. I know you're a big FF fan, FF13 will be out soon and you really want to play that on a HDTV like its meant to be played lol ![]() |

You still need the red and white for sound |

only on red/blue/green cables but it should also come with red and white as well. anyhow I would use HDMI not only it will show video in HD but also sound is already in that cable as well. |

Well a few things to note: I think this hdtv I have it on right now is 480i, it was cheap as hell, so HDMI is probably pointless on this, right? I was unaware different games had different video compatibilities. Hurray for not reading the back of the boxes. I'll try the RGB wires again later but for now I'm a bit worried about screwing with any wires as I don't want to take any chances on interrupting the FFXI installation again. Haven't gotten to play Bioshock yet but from the manual (I never read any reviews for it) it sounds more like Metroid Prime than an average shooter. |

Ponuh is right, you have to have the sound cables plugged in as well, the RGB is just video for HD. There really is a pretty big difference in the HD and normal video. Ace Combat was fun for a little while, but I'm glad I rented it, and didn't buy it. I got about half way through it before I got bored with the redundancy of it all. As far as HD goes, I plugged it into my new 52" LCD on normal resolution, and I was all "eh...this doesn't look very good at all" I walked around and swapped it to HD and my eyes feasted on the goodness of what I was seeing. It really does look good, and its a big difference. |

I tried the RGB with the R/W sound wires also plugged in and still got silence. I'm probably just missing something obvious. I played Bioshock in the normal tv mode with r/w/y and it looked friggn amazing, the only place I've seen a game look like that is on a friend's computer. Playing with stereo headphones put it over the top. I'm awful at it (every monster kicks my ass) but it's fun. I actually like the Ace Combat series a lot, I own most of them lol. I think this little button here in the center of the controller is pretty nifty. It's nice having control of the system without needing to reset. FFXI looks much better on this than on ps2, I don't need to squint to read the chat anymore and my spear's haft isn't jagged with pixels. Probably just gonna give up on all this and just get an rf modulator lol. |

prolly just plugging it in to the wrong place. And PC FFXI is still better looking by far haha. The lag on the Xbox FFXI pisses me off. Its not too bad jsut always there, especially without being able to turn the effects off or really mess with the resolution or screen ratio very much. |

Yeah I noticed weird lag on xbox, such as when I emote or cast spells. Meanwhile I just realized I went about the gamertag business all wrong, so now I have ffxi irrevocably linked to this GeneralDefault one while my Deadlegend tag is wasting the good name. lol |

an hdmi cable will you give the best possible picture and sound but is only a slight upgrade from the component cables imo, if you have the component cables going to an hdtv make sure the switch on the cable is set to hdtv, also, there's a system tab in your dashboard that lets you set the resolution of your hdtv, make sure that's set to 480i. That should help clean things up a bit. I never tried my 360 on a regular tv so I'm not sure what advice to give on how to get best picture/sound from that. goodluck! and make sure to add me when you get a chance ![]() |

Yeah, I've been putting a lot of time into Mass Effect these past couple days. I wasn't a huge fan of KOTOR, but this game is easily the best RPG for the system. |

DL on the component cables there are 5 plugs-in they should be 3 for videos and 2 sound. Now cable can look like you have 2 same colors like red and red but you need to look closely to those cable it should show that RBG in one group and RL sound in another group, offen they are tagged with marks on end of plug with sound or R and L or Y/Pb/Pr. This picture below just dont bother the out part just showing what marking looks like. ![]() Here a link that will help ya for more info or you need to read the book that TV of yours. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video Here the good part that most ppl that don't know about those component videos. Confusions wrote: Component video connectors are not unique in that the same connectors are used for several different standards; hence, making a component video connection often does not lead to a satisfactory video signal being transferred. The settings on many DVD players and TVs may need to be set to indicate the type of input/output being used, and if set wrong the image may not be properly displayed. Progressive scan, for example, is often not enabled by default, even when component video output is selected.
Modern game systems (such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii) use the same connector pins for both YPbPr and composite video, with a software or hardware switch to determine which signal is generated. Hence, a common complaint, especially with the PlayStation 2[citation needed], is that the component video signals are very green, with very dark reds and blues. This is simply because the system menu has not been changed from AV (Composite) to RGB (Component). |

IMO Ace Combat looks pretty good on HD. Also for the cable with a switch, make sure its on TV for regular tv, took us 30 minute to figure that out the first time. I prefer HDMI at my house since its easy and switches between xbox and ps3. Idk about your two names, is it the same profile? I know I had an offline gamertag, then when I went online it set me up a new one. |

I have a good eye for PQ and I didn't notice a difference at all with HDMI over component for games. I only use HDMI because my component inputs are full, and it allows HD DVDs to output 1080p. Bioshock fucking rocks and was by far my favorite game of 2007. When you get xbox live figured out, add me to your friends list lol. talyler |

Agreed, get Mass Effect if you want a single player RPG experience. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 comes out sometime in the near future as well. The Devil May Cry 4 demo was pretty kickass too. |

For the headset, did you make sure the switch for the mic was on? Sometimes mine is off and I still talk and don't notice. If you weren't hearing anybody, try messing with the settings under the home button. |

i dunno.. I'm so sick of fps games for the xbox, there's really only a handful of titles that aren't fps or sports related, so to take my favorite genre and mix it with my least favorite is kind of vexxing to me |

It was meant to be like KOTOR, but Mass Effect takes out the overpowered lightsabers and relies more on gunplay and powers. The game isn't much of an FPS to be honest as the game is played from the third person perspective. FPSes are crap on consoles anyways. |

I've sort of moved away from RPGs and I enjoy RTS the most now. I suppose I should sell my consoles and invest in a good PC because I can't even play SupCom |
