EVERYONE do themselves a favor and buy this game.

You can't call yourself a Final Fantasy fan and not play this. Uematsu/Sakaguchi are fucking good game makers.

The cutscenes, characters, music, and story are all really really good. I'm only done with disc 1 of 4 and I can already tell this will be one of my favorite RPG's of all time.

my cousin brought the game over. I was merely looking at it. Im just not gonna follow up on deejay's suggestion unless he's actually playing the game fully lol. Alot of you have that filthy habit of suggesting a game without actually finishing it. The attention span of wombats lol

Mikey, you need to go back and edit your posts in this thread to reflect the fact that a) you can comprehend what Deejay wrote and b) you understand that you and Deejay are different people. Jesus Christ.

I know :( I got tyed up in school crap when I recently bought Mass Effect, and then got suckered into buying DMC4.

I got Lost Odyssey for V-day and i'm having a crap load of fun playing it. I'll finish Mass Effect when i'm done with this, lol.

How is it that after eight years of DVD videogames there's suddenly a game that requires multiple discs?

I've hardly touched DMC4 since I'm trying to get every achievement in Mass Effect.

Cutscenes are big and long. I think that's what takes up most of the space.

If only the Xbox came with some sort of HD format included with the console so more data could be fit on the discs the games come on...

It's because the xbox doesn't have a harddrive. That's why the game is on four discs and that's why it runs like shit.

The game doesn't run like shit. The review build still had a lot of really bad load times. The game that shipped to stores doesn't have any of those problems. Mass Effect was far worse than Lost Odyssey from a technical standpoint.

Console games aren't installed to a HD usually like PC games would be. They run off of the discs primarily. The movies would all fit on a Blu Ray disc, but since Lost Odyssey is a 360 game it is held back by being only on DVD. The 20gig HD of the regular 360 is fine for some caching, and the 120gig would be even better. I think the 120gig will mostly be used for IPTV whenever they launch it stateside (launches in EU first wtf MS?).

The HD format that Supa and Dmitry were talking about was High Defnition and not Hard Drive. The Xbox360 just has a DVD drive, so the games will have to be on multiple disks until they enable a blu-ray addon via USB or some other alternative. They will make an entirely new console by then.

I'm just going off of what all the reviews have said (from both the Japanese final build and NA final build) but now that my xbox is fixed maybe I can tear myself away from Professor Layton long enough to go rent it.

The game is amazing. Best next gen RPG hands down. The load times are kinda long but not as annoying as I expected.

The story, graphics, and music are all top notch. Gameplay is good old fashioned turn based fights with a cool addition of holding the trigger and timing it right to unleash slightly more powerful attacks. My only complaint is you can't control the camera angle 360 degrees. You can only slightly pan the screen up, down, left, and right.

The bosses are FUCKING HARD. Leveling up is a pain in the ass too. Your exp kinda caps out after fighting the same mobs for a while like FFXI so you can't overlevel and rape the bosses lol. I read it gets even harder too.

Also the English voice acting is good...I actually like it more than the Japanese for this game. Haven't been happy with English voice acting in an RPG since FFXII.

You kinda have to grind abilities from items more than actually leveling up. Getting the anti-paralyze skill at the start helps you beat the first real boss more than getting extra levels.

I like the way the random encounter works in this game. The random mob fights are fun and require strategy, and they are not long, but not short enough to feel like they're easy/annoying. The encounter rate isn't too high either. If you fight every mob you see then you'll be at a steady pace ability wise.

That's cool because it requires more strategy. I'm a level gaining fool in RPGs and I'm often overpowered for dungeons and boss fights, so I use my own strategy of staying alive and raping stuff. This game doesn't let me do that which is good. It makes it a challenging RPG which is something I haven't had in a while (blue dragon and eternal sonata watered me down).

I just finished replaying FF1 (for the bazillionth time) and was reminded how annoying random encounters can be. This game is nice because you don't get them every 2 seconds or every other step lol. And yeah you definately get your levels and abilities just from playing through the game.

I'm busy irl all this week and I won't be able to play much. Damnit.

I'm considering picking up a 360 just for this after hearing all the positive feedback from you guys. The leveling system seems insane (I love it) not to mention Sakaguchi and Uematsu worked on this... seems like SE is going to have some competition :)

Except that Mistwalker's making games with gameplay that Square was implementing decades ago. They might be fun but they aren't trying to innovate the genre (and in my opinion, the genre needs some innovation)

Agreed. This game follows a more traditional form of rpg. Which is good. But then again it shows little to no change. Mass effect shows that rpgs have a chance to innovate.

I'm renting this game though, chances are i'd like it anyway haha.

Yeah this game is alot of fun. It may not be innovative but it does everything a traditional turn based RPG does right. I'm at the Crimson Forest on Disc 1, been having a good time so far. Jansen is an awesome character haha.

If you take the time to read Kaim's dreams they are very detailed and well done. They add alot of depth to his story.

Jansen is my favorite character for sure. He's made me laugh so many times. I love him.

I only read the first 2 stories for Kaim (they are fucking long! lol). I plan on reading through all of them eventually.

The one thing I really like about this game is that you can basically customize your immortals. The dreams are also a nice touch for the back story, since the few I got to seemed to be triggered by what you were doing in the game and pertained to that. I'll pick this game up for sure at some point, probably after I get my taxes back. haha

Yeah, Jansen is cool.

I just started disc 3, didn't enjoy the dungeons on disc 2 as much as disc 1, lol. The mansion took me forever without a guide for some reason. Also, don't worry much about not getting items here and there throughout the game, in disc 4 (before the final boss dungeon,) everything from disc 1-3 is made accesible.

____

And yeah, who ever said the game wasn't innovative was correct. But honestly, when was the last time you played a next-gen JRPG that was traditional turn-based? Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are the only 2 that come to mind. Yeah the system might be a little old, but it's not like we've been playing the genre out as of late.

Besides, I enjoyed FFX way more than FFXII. Lost Odyssey is a lot closer to FFX and excels at a lot of areas that FFX didn't, which I don't view as a problem.
