Hello CKD peeps!

If you recognize me (you probably wont ^^; ) I played on Ifrit server alongside many of you and partied with some people (its funny seeing them in the screenshots Im like OMG I REMEMBER THAT DUDE!! lol). I was a newb RDM named Flarez, lvl 60 when I "retired" from FFXI **cries** but anyway, lemme get to the point.

I thought you guys were awesome but I was never high enough lvl to even think about attempting to join you :P so eh... but I still think you guys are awesome and would do well in other MMOs too! I know a lot of you guys might play WoW, or even EQ2, but IMO both of those games can get kinda lame, kinda quick... so I wanted to bring to your attention a new MMORPG that will be released (hopefully soon :D ) that will be bigger, better, and more amazing than both EQ2 and WoW combined.

If you havent heard of it, Dark and Light, will be the biggest MMORPG to date, @ 40,000 sq. km (15,000 square miles) of land to explore, with no zones, and all one server!! Thats probably about... say... 35-40x the size of Vana'diel? Not to mention the completely insane game features! Since the list of game features is too long for me to list here, please, check it out for yourself! http://www.darkandlight.net <<< just check out the FAQ section or the "Features" section ;)

Heres an interesting thing about land size, taken from a post on mmorpg.com:

Total area (square kilometers):
Dark and Light - 40,000
SWG (all worlds) - 2025
Horizons - 1024
WoW - 950
AC1 - 576
EQ1 - 144
UO - 49

How many times each world fits into Dark and Light:

Dark and Light - 1
SWG (all worlds) - 20
Horizons - 39
WoW - 42
AC1 - 69
EQ1 - 278
UO - 816

And look at some of the screenshots while you're at it... they're equally as amazing. For a few more quick notes: There are 12 races (I think), 14 classes. Theres 2 kinds of exp, social exp (SxP) and fighting exp (FxP). The lvl cap is 100. You can become a high political position (such as baron, lord, or even king) of a land. You can control land (meaning your guild can control and govern an area of the game). You can build your own houses. There are 2 alignments, Dark and Light. You worship a god and depending on your piety that god may protect you during dire times in battle.... a lot more than this as well! But those are some key features.

Im not saying you should totally abandon FFXI for this (you wouldnt anyway :P) but Im recommending it as a great game for your guild to move to or "have a copy" in, once you've totally dominated FFXI like all the japs (hehe). The game is set for release on April 30th, 2005... It probably wont be around till June/July anyway. Consider it, and check it out!

lol rune. it sounds pretty cool. Looks good too. I hope they flush out the graphics a little and make them smoother. Character models look nice but it looks like its just images wrapped around polygons without a lot of refinement. If they add a lot of depth to this it may be one to look out for.

The 40k sq miles of land seems pretty damn desolate...

Is it fun? Size of the land isn't a good indication of the fun factor, which is the main reason why I'm still playing FFXI.

As much as I like to explore, MMORPG usually leave me under the impression they are a 1km by 1km land copy pasted over thousand of km. FF isn't too big (until you have to walk to jeuno without chocobo) but all location are unique in their own way. You can refer to any area or part of one area by a name or something. In a mmorpg like this one, exploring will be fun at first, but I'm sure it will get dull really quickly. They can't have a world this size with something special in every place.

Not to mention this game will probably lose when it come to creating a community and telling a story

Community is the most important factor when it comes to MMORPG, imo.

Ive followed this MMO since FFXI was in beta. It has alot of promise. Then again I thought Wish was going to be the next big sleeper hit.

FFXI NA beta ;p

MMO's take along time to develop.

Keep in mind the original concept and trailor for FF:Online (not FFXI back then) was premeired at E3 with the very first shots of FFIX.

Not sure if anyone saw that trailor er not, but it was some japanese people playing and they get to some castle thats too hard so they call their friend for help. the friend they call is this "bad ass" japanese guy and hes out with his bad friends but tells his friends he has to stop in at the cyber cafe to help some people. So he logs in and it shows a "fake" playonline and then he logs into "Final Fantasy Online" but it looked nothing like FFXI, it looked like FFVIII with a solid background and characters moving like that.

holy hell it was the funniest thing ive ever seen. i wish I still had the video.

I remember seeing early SS's of FFXI. Where ppl were killing behemoths like they were normal mobs. There was some huge dragon. Not like the ones on the game right now. Also the textures and models were.....bad to say the least. but the final models and textures in FFXI are really good. Light and dark just looks kinda plastic right now. I hope they change that.

I saw this trailer Yarr. Actually the "gameplay" part of the trailer were mostly CG from FFIX. Like they showed a Bahamuth CG then those guys called their badass friend that was in a cybercafé to come to thier rescue or something. I prolly still have it at home. There was also some early FFX trailer where Tidus had black hair and where you were suppose to be able to go on playonline while playing FFX to look at some faqs or something. Who would have paid montly fee for faqs anyway .
