It seem's nintendo is now appealing to their amputee fan-base.

wow, that is really different. i never expected two different pieces.

FU Microsoft, FU sony.

edit: read the article, by the way. if you're judging it just on the picture you're going to hate it.

edit2: holy shit. this is really crazy. this is like, so "360" (PUN) that people might not be able to shake their preconcieved notions that gaming controls have to be in the standard shape.

Quote:
...you could slash an in-game sword by actually swinging the controller from side to side, turn a race car just by twisting your wrist, or aim your gun in a shooter by pointing the controller where you want to fire.

Can anyone say revolution? :P

Seriously, I had the first initial reaction, but now I think it rocks. Think of the possibilities! Wield a realistic blade, or cast spells by doing specific motions in the air. In addition for being a 3-D Mouse, it has lightgun type technology, this makes the Nintendo Revolution the first device EVER to be able to realistically compete with the classic keyboard/mouse setup. The controller acts as a gun, and you can move around and do other things with the buttons and D-pad, or, if you want, the analog stick attachment.

This is going to alienate a lot of people, but for those who are open-minded enough, it's gonna kick ass. Go Nintendo.

I agree feep. People who can't take any change, in other words, people who a) love the xbox and b) like to see the same ideas (NINTENDO'S ideas, nonetheless) being recycled for decades over, will hate this. They weren't going to buy this anyways, they were saving their allowance for halo 3 xbox xtreme edition.

These dicks won't read that article. They'll look at the flipping pictures and call it a day. they'll even miss this:

Quote:
Nintendo also mentioned that the controller stick could be slipped inside other, more conventional controller shells, dance mats, bongos, or other peripherals.

edit3:

From gamespot:

Quote:
Overall, despite its unorthodox appearance, the Revolution controller has a comfortable feel. The assorted demos on hand also indicated that playing Revolution games will be a more active, physical experience than playing current-generation games. Whether you're using the pointer mechanic to actively control onscreen action or using two hands to take advantage of attachments, the Revolution controller will likely change how games are played.

do you think NINTENDO would make an uncomfortable controller? xbox would make a shit bag ostrich egg controller, and ps3 has this god awful piece of work:

Hooray for some innovation. Read the article.

http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334/vids_1.html

Cool teaser video that shows the possibilities of this thing irl.

edit4(christ): I've nearly forgotten! The revolution also has four gamecube controller slots. so for any game that needs a conventional controller setup (or backwards compatibility for gc) there's that. all bases covered!

k now im going to shit myself because this thing is so cool.

I'm still disappointed. And after seeing the screens for Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3, I'm going to have to say it's going to probably end up being my choice system for the next generation. And since the Zelda games take so long to be released, Revolution will probably be 99 bucks by the time they put one out for the system. lol I don't know, the controller doesn't look comfortable to me. I'll reserve my final judgement until I see the other options for controllers.

Alright, more investigation and I feel that this controller is okay. I have recovered from the initial kick in the balls shock that seeing the controller. Nintendo has blown my mind.

I just saw the video Ponuh posted and I'm changing my judgement slightly. Seeing it in action it actually looks like it could be fun. In the picture the cord between the joystick and remote looked too short to use effectivly, and the article had no mention of it that I saw. But in the video it looks like it could be decent. I've never been a huge fan of the moving around acting out the things for games, I always feel like an idiot on games like DDR. But if Nintendo does it right it should be fun. I can't wait to test this thing out.

this looks like the old ALPS controller, which was pretty comfortable to use.

So heres the thing. The video game industry is getting stale. I don't believe its because of the games. God knows there have been a million amazing games this Gen. Nintendo realizes this. As spectacular as the games are, I just get bored of them. I'll be honest. I loved Zelda:WW and Mario Sunshine and all the GC games like that.
Yet, I never was able to sit down and play through them all.
Nintendo has seen this problem. The games don't need to be changed, we all enjoy the games. So why change the game when you can change the way we play them. It seems to me like the best thing to do.

Besides, you can use the wavebird if it really bugs you. Who knows, Nintendo may include a Wavebird and the new Rev controller with the core package.

I would rather have a console that forced developers to be creative rather than just dishing out ports. The one thing that killed me this Gen was all the god damn ports.

Right and Nintendo is counting on that factor.

You see, Nintendo is trying to make a console that everyone will have in addition to the "hardcore" systems like PS3. Indications of this are by nintendo saying they arnt trying to make a system thats "Faster"

To many hardcore gamers seem to think that next gen is defined by a "faster" system. If that was the case then PCs gaming would be 30 million generations old (Video Cards are on a 6ish month cycle, every 6ish months a new set of cards is released).

I respect what nintendo is trying to do here. Nintendo makes amazing games, its hard to argue that, however an amazing games can get boring because lets face it, we can only play the same style of game so many times before it just "Feels" the same.

Changing the way we play games, changes the feel. Id used the Nintendo DS as an example.

I have a strong feeling that we'll see the gamecube controller show up alot for the multi-platformers. They do really have all bases coverered.

Yeah i can understand that initial "kick in the balls" haha. I had it to, but i read the article and my faith was restore.

This is a great innovation and I think Nintendo is awesome for trying it. Sorry but you people whining about it and saying "blah I wont play that thing" havnt even given it a try and that's the reason innovation isnt heard of that much in gaming. Why the hell make something new and exciting when you can make a fucking Madden game every year and sell for full price even though it's the same damn game. I once had a person tell me EA was an innovative company..... This is awesome thing Nintendo is doing. Remember the Super Scope and all of nintendo's toys? Those were so much damn fun to play with (Yeah FUN! you know... stuff games are about and not graphics)
