I got the demo for DQ8, I should play it. I've loved the series for awhile, and I was bummed when the SNES remakes for PS1 were canned for NA release. Americans just don't like the DQ series. But in Japan it was more popular than FF (I don't know about now with all these fancy computerized robot super movies with their high tech graphics). I'm hoping the demo for FFXII sparks some big interest in the game and the new cell shading style works for the series. Hope the battle system got some upgrades too. ;x

I played DQ 7 and while yes its a good game, quite long which i like it also has too many of the types of things that I hate for a console gaming.

Mostly grinding, a console game shouldn't have 3 years worth of grinding, I'm mall inf avor of long epilogue and post game quests and stuff. but in DQ 7 even leveling 1-2 jobs up takes a long time, godforbid you try and get a couple monster levels, or master a few jobs for the bonus.

Won't even get into the fact I couldn't beat the game cause I forgot which portal I was in after I stopped playing for a couple weeks.

Then you add the archaic combat system and lackluster sprite graphcis to the mix, and you get a game that imo simply doesn't have much appeal left except its franchise, and the hardcore RPG types. Niether of which is found in american.

Also even the story wasn't that great. I mean the episodic nature is good for givign you a bit of small stories, and of course you have the changes in time, but overall there was little character development or that sort of thing....

All in all i guess I can just say I didn't like DQ 7... but at least it was better than legends of dragoon or whatever. Ii really hated that one

Ya Vurin, you've listed the exact reasons why DQ7 was such a failure in the states. The battles are tedious and lackluster, and you can easily forget wtf you're supposed to do if you take a break. What Japanese gamers love about it are the puzzles, mini-games, story, customization, and epic feel of the games. Which is what I like about them too.. minus the puzzles (most feel repetitive). I'm not exactly a fan of the class system where you look exactly the same as if you were any other job. I've been spoiled by Final Fantasy V and XI. lol

I really, really hope that this game does well. And.. check out this controller.

A demo of FFXII??? Does this mean we'll finally get to play this damn game soon? It's been delayed so much that when it finally comes out, the PS3 will be out.

You'd be surprised, the previous installments had some pretty dark stories. VII really was the oddball in the series.
