My GOD I can't rip myself away from this game...in fact, the people in the next room playing it and laughing in unfettered joy are calling me back. But I must resist, for I must beseech thee to obtain this game...

The single player modes are pretty wacky, but create-a-character is cool as HELL, and the new characters are great. Backgrounds are some of the prettiest things I've ever seen in a video game. Tons of unlockables, and the same old tried and true SC gameplay with a few changes...just frame guard impact, a true ukemi, revamped move lists, etc.

BUY THIS GAME. Off to play more.

But if i remember correctly there's no online VS mode in SC III. That was a pretty major thing to overlook imo. As XBox kicks ass in the online play area where PS doesn't do much there. I would love to test my Mitsurugi skillz in some online VS mode.

Setsuka is uber cheap. But I think Cervantes is the best in the game. He has like 50% CH juggles that are easy as hell to do.

Certantes was un-nerfed, but most of his juggles can be air controlled out of. I think he's decent, but not overpowered.

A lot of people were disappointed with no online play, but the lag, even if only a couple frames a second, would be unforgivable in a game as precise as Soul Calibur 3. It was an intentional decision to not implement it, due to technical reasons, and I respect Namco's judgement. That said, X-box sucks, and SC3 kicks ass, so get it.

How is Yoshi in this game?

I'm gonna try and get it on Sunday, and in SCII I played Yoshi, Nighty and Cervy almost religiously, lol.

Yoshimitsu appears to be largely unchanged, as was my own character, Xianghua. Characters who are significantly different include Talim, Kilik, and Ivy...lots of moves deleted, moved, or added. I must reiterate that while only three new characters are advertised, there are approximately 15, as each new weapon type gets a bonus character who uses it. It's a bit complicated, but new weapons include a steel fan, kunai, and that bitchin' free-form pole thing that the third Hokage uses from Naruto. These all appear to be well-balanced, so there's no reason not to use them in standard play. Party on.

How was Ivy changed?

She was.... a bit complicated in the last game to use.
Does she still have Summon Suffering and CS (I forget what it stood for.... something Symphony)?

EDIT: I just remembered, it's Criminal Symphony.

I went and bought SC3. its good. I'm not a fan of the perfect guard impact system. In which with perfect timing you could essentially parry blows back and forth indefintely, but overall they did add quite a bit of depth to the system. Yes I button mash like no tomorrow, but I do it worth a purpose.

Both of Ivy's command throws are still in the game, but her stance transitions were severely screwed up. I was never an Ivy fan to begin with, but I have three friends who've all complained to me about what they did with her.

The "perfect" guard impact system does absolutely NOTHING to change the way you fight. It simply means if you get a PERFECT GI, on the exact frame of the hit, your post-GI follow-up will be treated at a Counter, thus increasing the damage. If you miss that one frame, it's still a normal GI, and the JFGI doesn't actually change anything but numbers, so the strategy is left intact.

Soul Calibur 3 IS more button-mashing friendly to newbies than Tekken is, simply because of the simplicity of the button layout and easy access to awesome moves, but I assure you, when I can beat a line of people in an arcade for ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY NINE CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES (I kid you not), button-mashing is not an effective technique against someone who knows what he's doing. (grin)

Besides. REAL fighting sucks. You bleed and shit.

How?

I didn't really use much of her stances but damn she had a decent mix-up game like Yoshi and Nighty ; ;
