Ok so I wondering what do you guys think is the best older gaming system out there in terms of games and such. I voted the N64. The graphics were great for its day, the games were awesome (I love Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda, and a whole bunch of others) and it was more attuned to Fun than anything.

Please forgive me for leaving sustems (such as Atari and Sega Saturn) out.

edit: I put dream cast up there but the site didnt let it go, sorry

gotta vote super nintendo. all the rpgs that were awesome on it (Earthbound, chrono trigger, super mario rpg, secret of mana), super metroid, mario all stars, super punch out, etc etc there were a lot of great classic games on it.

SNES was the best. Dreamcast was awesome because of the Capcom and Sega games on it. Thanks to Sega's poor marketing the thing bombed.

snes > psx > nes > n64 > sega

I never owned a sega so I'm kinda biased.

Would have voted Dreamcast if it was there, most underrated system ever. SNES got my vote. It was the first system I got hooked on... Super Mario Bros.

had a hard time deciding between SNES and PSX but finally chose SNES cuz i remember back in the day playing FF2 & FF3 and it being fun where as the PSX games were more serious then anything else yet still fun tho.

I'd say the Super Nintendo. It had a huge selection and wide variety of games, not to mention a pretty large library of RPGs, a lot due to Squaresoft.

The SNES had a lot going for it at the time which nothing else, not even the Genesis, really had. The "Mode-7" support was pretty versatile and allowed for some pretty decent sprite rotating and scaling effects such as Mario Kart. Expansion chips built onto the cartridges such as the C4 and SuperFX allowed for games like StarFox and Yoshi's Island to surface. Not to mention the built in SRAM on the majority of cartridges did away with annoying password systems and openned the doors to large complex games such as RPGs to be played on the console.

It's "competitor", the Sega Genesis (Megadrive) really had none of that stuff. I owned one and honestly, the majority of games released for it always looked and played like slightly upgraded Sega Master System games. The Sonic series on the Genesis looked and played great, but beyond that there's very little off the top of my head I can think of that made the Genesis little more than an SMS with a larger screen res and slightly more detailed sprites. It was really a case of developers not putting in any real effort as opposed to the system not being capable, I think.

It was called the Sega Megadrive II here in England.

I still have one of these. Should have a Saturn somewhere too.

EDIT: There's also the incredibly rare Sega Nomad, which was basically a Game Gear II; A portable Genesis.

I got SNES way too late to enjoy a lot of the games for it - FF2/3, Chrono Trigger, etc. I voted NES since that's where I really started getting into games and made me into the nerd I am today. ;p Nostalgia +1 for me.

bahh i voted NES on accident, i meant SNES lol.

SNES > Genesis > PS > N64 > NES

thats the list of game systems that i had the most fun playing certain games, not their actual performance etc etc haha

snes has the games that I would be most likely to go back and replay.

in fact I usually do. Oo

So, SNES for me.

FF games, played a lot of fighting games on there (SF, Killer Instinct, etc.), Star Fox games that didn't suck, F-zero

I was such a dork. I played illusion of Gaia when I was like 9 or 10 and after I beat it I started doing looking in encyclopedias and shit for the ruins they mentioned, (incan ruins, angkor wat, etc.)

The only games I really played on Sega were sonic games, x-men (fucking hard ass game,) rocket knight adventures and some fighting game... Eternal Champions? Whichever game had the guy who could turn people to gold as a special move. Don't remember his name.
