Good PS2 RPG = Dragon Quest 8.

I can't really answer your other questions but DQ is pretty addictive and easily 70+ hours depending on what all you do in game. (I'm still nowhere near finishing it)

There's another thread about it if you poke around this forum a bit.

RE ftw.

DQVIII is too...ah...old school for me, I think. I can't tolerate cliched storylines and battle systems (as refined as they may be) at this point in my RPG-playing career...

RE4 isnt anything special if you ask me. i would much prefer DQ8. RE4 is much too different from the other RE your used to and is a little to easy although its longer then others and the storyline isnt too great either.(about 15 hours).

Pfft, 15 hours if you're slow. (Mind you I didn't have infinite guns)

I already said this in the RE4 topic but it took me 25 hours the first time through. I never really got stuck at any parts since there really aren't any hard puzzles in this game, I just killed 97% of all the enemies, tried to make sure to get all ammo/items, and collected all the bottle caps the first time through (which you get from a pretty fun shooting gallery mini game). Basically, I don't think you can enjoy the game if you just run through the whole thing in 10-15 hours. Really great game if you enjoy shooting stuff and getting headshots, also pretty scary for me, but I get scared sorta easy.

This game also has more unlockables/rewards that i've seen in most games. Assignment Ada and Mercenaries are both little sidequest game things that you can play after you beat the game, mercanaries is more like an arcade game where you score as many points possible within a time limit (has time extension items, and kill chain bonuses) with unlockable characters.

One more thing, the 2 difficulty settings, normal and professional are actually way different. Unlike most games, professional RE4 will be a big challenge if you really wanna say you completed everything. Really surprising that there isn't really a reward for beating it on professional though.
